Today Lola wants to do everything all on her own, but things aren’t as easy as she thought they’d be. In the park, when Charlie and his friend Marv explain to Lola that a seesaw won’t “see” or “saw” with only one person on it, Lola reluctantly lets them sit on the other end. When Lola soars into the sky, it launches her into an elaborate high-seas fantasy where she saves Marv and Charlie from ever-soevil pirates. All on her own!

My 5 year old grandaughter is a Charlie & Lola fanatic, and at the age of growing increasingly fiercly independent, I thought this would be a perfect read for her. Although it has the usual charm and wonderful easiness of all the Lauren Child books, when we got to the end, it felt like there was something missing, as if the book was somehow finished in a hurry. Unusually Jaz did not ask me to read it to her again and again as she has with all previous C&L books - I think that says it all really.

My 4 year old is really enjoying this book- so much so that i am reading it everyday since buying in May. He starts smiling when Lola's imagination of being pirate saves Charlie and Marve. I think he enjoys this book amongst others.

we were very disappointed with this book; seemed very different in style from earlier stories; book is now in bin!

My daughter loves Charlie and Lola, and so do I, but to be honest they are hard work as a bedtime story. Buy a dvd instead, and watch it together before they go to bed. Read more
