I was lucky enough to see Soulwax -live- recently, and it was the best gig I've ever been to by a mile.Naturally I had to buy the album because I couldn't quite comprehend how they had made me want to dance like a lunatic. I cranked up the amp and boy, I wasn't disappointed by this offering. It's one you'll want to play again and again. As long as your stereo is up to the challenge, that is. Their sound is so different and pioneering and Stephen Dewaele's vocals are simple, sometimes repetitive, but you wouldn't want it any other way, trust me. Track 7 will realy catch you by surprise as it doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the album, it's a soft , moving ballad that always "gets" me. But the standout tracks are "Compute" - play it to your friends and they won't stop humming it for the rest of the day. Very catchy and energising. "NY Excuse" features Nancy Whang from LCD Soundsystem and the up and coming DFA label and it's a cracker! Recently released as a single. Very funky electro beat and crazy vocals! To be brutally honest, there are no weak tracks on this, and the ones that you may not like so much on first listen you will probably end up liking a lot! I like this so much that I couldn't help buying the back catalogue and it makes me think Soulwax is Belgium's best kept secret. If I see that they are playing another gig I would not hesitate to go again! I really don't want to sit here raving on about how good this album is, so instead I'm going off to listen to it now! Enjoy!
