They had a whirlwind Vegas romance - but can he play for keeps?

Product Description

Hey, pretty lady, haven't we met?

Yes, beautiful thirty-something Autumn Haven has definitely met hockey-superstar Sam LeClaire before. Several years ago she had a passionate, Vegas-inspired fling with him involving getting hitched in an Elvis-themed wedding chapel and ending with her waking up in a hotel room: alone, heartbroken... and pregnant.

So these days, reminding her ex-husband that she even exists isn't high on Autumn's to-do list. But they have a child, Conner, and suddenly Sam claims to have grown up, wanting to be more involved with his son. And handsome, drop-dead sexy Sam always gets what he wants. Being a good dad to Conner is one thing, but to her horror, Autumn realises she still finds it practically impossible to be around Sam without falling for his charms once again. And that's the last thing she wants... isn't it?

Sexy, funny, unputdownable - there's no one quite like Rachel Gibson.

I am a big fan of rachel gibson, however am starting to think when Im reading that I have already read the book before. the characters and plot are similar to her last book leaving me slightly disapointed. dont get me wrong, i did enjoy it but if you fancy a good read then i would suggest some of her earlier work like sex, drugs and online dating.

Charming Read 19 May 2011
Format:Paperback
My summary of the book - After seeing and talking to Autumn at a wedding it jolts Sam into realising he needs to spend more time with his son but he starts to make the effort Autumn doesn't believe it is going to last and tries to protect herself and son as she knows her son will be upset. Slowly Sam makes the effort and spends more time which means more time seeing Autumn but she can't be around him without thinking about their past in Las Vegas.

Thoughts on the characters - Autumn experienced quite a weekend when she first meets Sam as she ends up married and pregnant and it changes her life. When Sam leaves her after that weekend it hardens her as she had to repair her broken heart and get on with her life and care for her son. This affects Autumn and Sam getting along when they are in the same room as she can't forgive him for what he done but she realises that he still is very attractive and she can't stop feeling attracted to him.
Sam changes through the book from a womaniser who cares about hockey but when Autumn tells him some home truths he realises he needs to change and be a better dad. As he makes the changes in his life he can't understand why he feeling attracted to Autumn as she is not his usual woman and the more time he spends with her and his son his feelings become confusing. When he realises what he wants he faces a struggle to convince Autumn.

Thoughts on the writing style - Really engaging and easy to read so you don't lose where you are or what is happening.

Overall thoughts - I love Rachel Gibson's books and I have to say I really enjoyed this one too. It was passionate, engaging and emotional. Well worth a read.

Rachel Gibson has always been an auto buy for me, but I haven't particularly liked her last few books so for the first time, I didn't automatically buy Any Man of Mine, but have waited until I got a copy from the Library rather than buy it.
My favourite novels of Rachel's that I read over and over are See Jane Score, Truly, Madly, Yours and Daisy's Back in Town. As much as I loved the Chinooks and some of the earlier novels related to this series, I do believe that she has now done this theme to death and should move on.
As for Any Man of Mine, it was very similar to Simply Irresistable only this time the father knew about his child. I think Rachel needs to think of some new plot lines and new ideas. This story just sort of plodded on with nothing really happening until the last chapter when it all speeded along and ended too quickly. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be from the reviews and I didn't think Sam was too bad, but as others have mentioned, there was no real chemistry between himself and Autumn. Even the sex scenes were quite tame compared to her other novels. It does seem like she just churned this one out. I hope things improve with the next one, which is surely going to feature Vince the brother from this novel. Again, I will bide my time and read the reviews first and get it from the library.

superficial
It is sad but her older books are so much better, this concluded so quickly without really getting the feeling that Sam had changed or it was likely to be permanent.
