3.0 out of 5 stars Hmmmmmm, 12 Sep 2007
By Kate Juin (France) - See all my reviews
I first heard John Mayer on Eric Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival DVD, and the experience prompted me to buy Room for Squares, Heavier Things and Continuum. I love all three. His performance at EC's concert was great so I was looking forward to hearing this live CD, but what I hadn't realised was that his charming smile and commercial success in America have led to a following of zillions of screaming 13 year olds, and there they all were, on my new double CD, drowning out every other lick and giving the whole album a completely different feel to what I was expecting. So what can I say? I was really disappointed, which is daft as I still love his stuff, but, without wanting to offend, I just couldn't cope with the audience participation. Maybe I'm just sad!

2.0 out of 5 stars The audience ruins it, 2 Mar 2008
I completely agree with the other reviewer here. I really like John Mayer's stuff, it's clever, well written blues/pop/soul and his albums have provided me with hours of pleasure. This one, on the other hand is almost unlistenable. It's not that any part of the live performance is bad, it's just the screaming girls in the audience. If I had paid money for a ticket to that show I would have been so annoyed, it is almost constant all the way through and totally ruins what would otherwise have been a fine live album.
I think that John is moving in a progressively less comercial direction and hopefully in the future we can get a live release that doesn't sound like he has the audience from a Backstreet Boys show.
