Book Description

A Ship of the Law travels the infinite enormity of space, carrying 82 young people: fighters, strategists, scientists; the Children. They work with sophisticated non-human technologies that need new thinking to comprehend them. They are cut off forever from the people they left behind. Denied information, they live within a complex system that is both obedient and beyond their control. They are frightened. And they are making war against entities whose technologies are so advanced, so vast, as to dwarf them. Against something whose psychology is ultimately, unknowably alien.

Greg Bear is a fantastic science fiction writer! Such an amazing imagination. This is real science fiction before all the fantasy came along.

A great book, shame forge of god isn't available as this is the second book, but still stands on its own

I have rated this five star because although I have not yet read it I am sure I will love it, as much as I have loved all other greg bears books. You may be wondering why I have rated this without reading it. I am wating patiently for the publishers to release the original forge of god, so I may read this first.I am sure you will e mail me when this happens.

5.0 out of 5 stars Six stars at least 30 Jan. 2015

This is a must read piece of sf. It's a sequel to the very good, say four stars, Forge of God, but far more sophisticated, original and insightful. The ambiguous moral position, the flawed, stressed children, and the otherworldly nature of the society they form will have your mind churning long after you turn the last page. I have retread this book several times over a couple of decades, and there's always more to find in it. These little yellow cover kindle editions are too good a bargain to pass up. Just buy it and read it, now.
3.0 out of 5 stars Not second parts are good...? 26 Mar. 2015

Good history, but I got the feeling that is unfinished... A little dense on the plots on the Ship of the Law, I think the history is good enough to be readable and brings some impressive tech to think about it.
