Product Description

All five episodes of the BBC cookery series in which Antonio Carluccio, the godfather of Italian gastronomy, travels through Southern Italy sampling and cooking the region's specialities. His tour takes him from Sardinia to Sicily and from Campania to Calabria, with visits to Rome, Puglia and Basilicata. Among the treats in store are an impromptu barbecue in a vineyard, a shepherd's feast in the Barbagia Mountains, a Neapolitan pizza-making class, a moonlit octopus-fishing trip and a San Lorenzo's night grill for ten men called Lorenzo.

5.0 out of 5 stars Escape the rat race for a while...... 15 Feb 2010
I bought this double dvd due to a long interest in Italian cookery but never enough nerve to try it properly. I had really enjoyed the Keith Floyd dvd trail across Italy and then Amazon suggested this series from the late 1990s. Thank you Amazon! This is the most gentle paced journey around southern Italy where nothing is too important, othing is to be rushed and everything is there to be loved and appreciated, from the scenery to the people and of course the food. Antonio is the most laid back of hosts, imagine the opposite of the odious Gordon Ramsay or clinical Gary Rhodes. Here, cooking is a way of wrapping your arms around people and caring about who they are, their cultural background, and eventually what ends up on the plate for everybody to devour.

I've watched this entire series a couple of times now and it is a very nice way to end a stressful day. Oh to be seated at just ONE of those many tables and share the company of these warm people in warm southern Italy!

A wonderful DVD beautifully filmed showing Italy in all it's beauty and also very educational to any budding chefs! Can watch it over and over again and Antonio is everyone's favourite grandpapa.

5.0 out of 5 stars Italian food 5 May 2009
We lived in Rome for twenty years. Our children grew up there and are lingual Italian/English. Rome is our home town. This DVD captures the feeling of Italy and the casual nature of the food based on fresh ingredients and last minute preparation. A great DVD.

4.0 out of 5 stars italian feast
those two dvds are really good but i would have appreciate to see more "mamma" cooking, each recipe is too quickly made so i didn't feel the joy of an italian trip. Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but flawed
Carluccio's enthusiasm for the produce of his own country is infectious and the dishes he creates are interesting - I believe that you could follow them if you wanted to. Read more
