By Theseus - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
A quality tour of the whole of fine and collectible needlework, beginning with the 900's through today.

"This book provides much expert information for the collector and social historian and, with many fine pieces from public and private collections ilustrated in 166 black and white and 49 colour plates, with be an invaluable source of ideas and desings for today's embroiderers."

I particularly appreciated that some of the photography is clear and close enough that the actual texture of the piece is conveyed.

In a a little over 200 pages, Synge manages to cram a great detail of detailed information into the book.

With separate chapters on Heraldry, Costume, Furniture, and Collecting. Glossary, bibliography, and index.
