The Paris section is particularly useful - as a regular visitor to the Paris fleamarkets, it is crucial to find the hidden gems of the massive Clignancourt complex. A dozen separate markets with over 1500 stalls, it is so easy to overlook alleyways and miss the specialists. This guide lists the main markets, and lists many of the specialist stalls - an essential planning tool when time and energy are limited.
The London section is also useful - not every last market is included, but for newcomers to Greenwich, Bermondsey and Portobello, it is still very informative. And Alfies is well covered also. Flipping the book over so each of the two parts has it's own front cover confused me horribly at first, but that just me, easily confused - it actually works quite well once you know what's going on!
Read throughly before your trip, and check through the evening before the expedition to make sure you have the address details memorised. Worth it's price many times over.

Interesting and well laid, although the depth of the material is sometimes a bit shallow. No mention of Northcote Road or Thames Ditton in London, for example.
Also the first place I tried - in North End Road - had closed, which was a bit disappointing since the book has only just come out.

What's in the book is interesting but sometimes obsolete, since it was published some years ago and has not been updated.

Its OK but the French section is more or less all about Clignancourt which is pretty disappointing. London a bit better but some of it is out of date and I couldn't really recommend it.

Adventurous Shopper's Delight! 26 Oct 2000
By Ruth Keeper - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Antique and Flea Markets of London and Paris is a book serious shoppers will love. While spending several summer months in London, I have visited a number of the markets described. The authors are right on target, and the photos are enjoyable. I learned about many features I've missed, and read about several new places to try on the next trip. The book realizes that shoppers are people, not machines, and tells a little about the market's surrounding area, especially places to stop for a snack and a rest.
I'm not as familiar with Paris, but if the Paris section is even close to being as accurate and useful as the London section, it will save shopping time and hassle across the channel, as it will in London.
This is not "the" book for your trip if you need a complete guide book. If you like antiques and markets, however, you will love this book.

A great resource! 22 May 2001

This book met a lot of my expectations by being very portable, very well-illustrated, and full of good descriptions of the merchandise one is likely to find in London and Paris flea markets. "Antiquing" is a very visual experience for me, and having plenty of photographs to whet my appetite for the various shops was a real plus. The book was useful too in helping me plot which days to attend which markets. Even if the merchandise changes and vendors sometimes move, there is enough general information that stays constant for this to be a useful guide for several years. The two-for-one format--London and Paris in one book--is also fun. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the maps could have been better. Otherwise, a great resource!

Good, but probably dated 28 Jun 2009
By Artsy bookwoman - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
If you are looking for a very general idea of what these markets are like with nice pictures, then this is a good book. However I would recommend noting that the publication date was 1999, so the information in it is likely to be accurate on a macro scale only. I'm sure that there are similar vendors to those described in each market, but unlikely to be the same ones listed in here. The book does note that it is only accurate in describing fall 1998's vendors and may not be accurate at any point beyond that.

ONe of the best tour guides 12 Mar 2012
By Lanier Cordell - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
While other tour guides focus on where to eat and what to see, this great little tome gives insider information on great places to shop for bargains including out of the way places you might not find on your own. I plan to use this on a trip I will be taking to London and France in April.
