This is an excellent resource for learning about antique furniture, especially if you want to know more in order to buy authentic pieces. The book is divided into sections on each type of furniture depending on whether it is from England, the Continent, or the New World. This means that if you are looking at an English linen press, you can go straight to the section and read what the styles were at certain times, what the wood should be, how it should be constructed, and get tips of what to look for in terms of alterations and fakes. I love this book!

Even tough the focus is a lot on European, English and American furniture, which were and are trendsetters, the book is very informative and the explanations are done by qualified experts(s) in the subject.
I have it on my shelve and I can constantly consult it for several styles and history of furniture, as well as for general knowledge to apply when purchasing or discussing about furniture.
The layout and index of names, styles, objects etc are easy to comprehend and are well illustrated. Moro color photo's in the next edition please!
A definite recommendation for those that want to become an expert, for the aficionado and the professional.
