ANTHONY HOPKINS - THE AUTHORISED BIOGRAPHY
ANTHONY HOPKINS - THE AUTHORISED BIOGRAPHY
‘Meticulously researched . . . an informed and insightful piece of work.’ Film Review

Winner of the Best Actor Oscar in 1992 for The Silence of the Lambs, and nominated for his roles in the films The Remains of the Day, Nixon and Amistad, Anthony Hopkins has confirmed his international star status.

From early screen success in The Lion in Winter, to his compelling performances as Dr Hannibal Lecter, a tragic CS Lewis, disgraced American President Richard Nixon and genius artist Picasso, the Welsh-born actor has established a magnetic presence and a dangerous vitality. But alcoholism and a record of hell-raising came close to wrecking his enviable career: only by a massive effort of will has Hopkins overcome his demons and reformed his life.

Definitive and up to the minute, this biography has been written with the full co-operation of Hopkins and those who know him. Now updated to include Hopkins’s latest work in Nixon, Surviving Picasso, The Mask of Zorro and Titus, this is a frank and revealing account of a major star.

‘Written with style, humour and humanity, knowledge and affection for its subject and solid understanding of a great actor’s craft.’ Sunday Express

1.0 out of 5 stars Very hard going - very little about the "real" Hopkins, 12 July 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Anthony Hopkins: The Authorised Biography (Paperback)
This book is hard reading. Very little infomation about Hopkins himself. It reads more like a C.V. of his career. I found myself skipping over the cast lists of unknown productions (which was most of them). It appears as if the author has never even met Hopkins and has constructed the book from reviews. Very disapointed.

2.0 out of 5 stars What the Butler's Wife Saw...., 13 May 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Anthony Hopkins: The Authorised Biography (Paperback)
The problem with authorised biographies is that generally they are vanity pieces glorifying the subject. In this case, Falk appears to have taken a hatchet to a seemingly not overly cooperative and rather remote Hopkins and an excessively over cooperative Lady Hopkins who is anxious to interpret her estranged husband's behaviour as the result of lunacy not passion. A very odd book about a very odd couple. It is hard to imagine a marriage stranger than that of this exceptionally gifted and volatile artist and his repressed, doormat wife. And, in light of Hopkins' recent repudiation of his knighthood and US citizenship, the revised biography is not particularly enlightening. The unauthorised biography should be much more interesting.
