About the Artist

British guitar virtuoso Davy Graham inspired a multitude of artists such as Paul Simon, Jimmy Page and Jimi Hendrix. Combining Jazz, Blues, Folk, Soul, Rock, Indian and Arabic music, Graham proved to be one of the 20th century's most versatile guitarists and songwriters. His ability to transcend genre can easily be heard on this 28-song compilation. Music On Vinyl's Anthology (Lost Tapes 1961-2007) is the only double LP issue of the praised compilation CD by the same name, first released in April 2012. With a bonus: four tracks are exclusive to the vinyl issue. The artwork features clippings of Davy Graham's personal portfolio. Quality material for lovers of above-mentioned genres.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lost tapes of genius 16 May 2012
By EV
Format:Audio CD
Having seen Davy Graham play numerous times, I can confirm that his playing hit the 'legendary' proportions that old folkies talk of when reminiscing about the 60s - and these recordings capture some of those times.

That said, if you like Davy you take the rough with the smooth, the raw with the cooked - and these 'lost tapes' capture Davy doing what he did best - playing in a small club or in a room with a few friends. The highlights to me are an outstanding performance of Anji from 1961, The Gold Ring, 40 Ton Parachute (- a reference, the man himself once told me, to the Apollo programme re-entry device) and a 'taped off the radio' (complete with flutter) version of Bruton Town.

This anthology is a fitting retrospect of the great Davy Graham in the raw - a guitarist that inspired generations to pick up a guitar and then inspired them again to look beyond the standards to new vistas.

4.0 out of 5 stars GOOD SET 13 Jun 2012
Format:Audio CD
THE MUSIC ON THESE DISCS IS VERY GOOD.I HAVE LIKED DAVEY GRAHAM SINCE 1966,WHEN I FIRST SAW HIM LIVE.THIS SET MAKES A VERY INTERESTING ADDITION TO THE OTHER DISCS I ALREADY HAVE,VERY WELL WORTHWHILE.IHAVE ONLY GIVEN 4 STARS AS THE PACKAGING COULD BE BETTER AND THERE COULD BE MORE COMPREHENSIVE NOTES.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent addition 28 Jun 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Great to have this material available, especially the earlier recordings which show Davy at his best in a way that studio recordings sometimes failed to catch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful music by Davy 9 Mar 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
It takes me back and his inspiration can take your guitar playing forward: how many now famous guitarists and singer-songwriters have him to thank for where they are today? His influences are so eclectic and exotic. This anthology includes, apparently, the only actual recording of him playing 'Angie' - worth buying for this alone. Recommended with yak bells and cymbals: get this if you have any interest whatever in the guitar and its history as well as one of its major exponents.

Strong, mystic representation of essential guitar music. This can be listened to for hours for days on end while continuing to have a positive effect, forever.
