Three lps on two cds feature three Ewan MacColl albums from the late 1950s which, to the best of my knowledge, have not ever been released on cd before, so this is a very welcome reissue. The first cd contains the influential "Bad Lads and Hard Cases" album, which, in terms of importance, would be worth reissue on its own. The third album features songs of Robert Burns, but does not sit comfortably on cd2 alongside the album which precedes it: "Still I Love Him", which will, for most listeners turn out the most welcome of the three lps reissued here. "Still I Love Him" came out c.1959 on Topic, and it's a mystery why Topic have not themselves re-released it on cd. The majority of tracks on "Still I Love Him" feature the exquisite vocals of Isla Cameron, and hopefully this particular reissue will stimulate the release of other Isla Cameron recordings. There was a second, shared billing lp on Topic, and I seem to remember there being an lp on Transatlantic's budget price Xtra label in the 1960s. All in alll, given the price, this is a cd worth anyone's time who may be interested in the 1960s folk revival, or the folk-rock which followed on from it. As far as the UK is concerned, this is one of the places where it all more or less began.
