5.0 out of 5 stars Evokes an entire era! 6 Oct 2000
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
This is not just a wonderful collection of Donna Summer's greatest hits but Disc 1 is choc of anthems of the disco era and the time of gay liberation. The album as a whole is a great introduction to her entire career and allows listeners to see the contribution Donna made to the music industry especially in the seventies.
She was a black female who made a major mark in the music industry before artist such as Debbie Harry or Madonna had even been heard of. The real respect she deserves has managed to elude her especially in the nineties even when most of her music is as much at home in the discos of today as it was in the seventies.
'I Feel Love' to name just one still manages to fill the floor. Therefore, if you only own one CD by Donna Summer, this is the perfect one. Buy it...you won't be disappointed and will probably be surprised how many of the songs you actually know or remember.

4.0 out of 5 stars almost there 18 May 2012

brilliant but not a proper anthology ? dinner with gershwin, back in love again and down deep inside are missing. if album tracks had been left aside until the entire singles collection had been included this would have been worthy of the title of anthology. these are three terrific songs and far better than anything stock, aitken and waterman ever had anything to do with including the lesser songs they produced for donna. almost five stars but not quite. if your going to call any collection an anthology then make sure it is complete, had this been it would have been a beauty.

5.0 out of 5 stars An emotional purchase, for sure 26 Jun 2012
Format:MP3 Download|Verified Purchase
One knew exactly what to expect when purchasing the anthology of Donna Summer's greatest hits. The best thing here was purchasing as a download, so one could hear the music almost immediately. The download process worked well, without any hitches. And the music was exactly what I wanted.

Donna Summer defined DISCO. Her songs were just simply bombastic, and the repeat value was definitely present. THis album does justice to her in that is is by far her most defining (definitive ?) album. Its a little known fact that long before the days of Snoop Doggy Dogg, Eminem and Dr Dre; her blockbuster track 'I Love To Love You Baby' was banned form the radio airwaves for being too sexually explicit. What prudes !!! This track is one of the most erotic (not Pornographic !) tracks that exist. The ultimate dance track is 'I Feel Love' which hasn't aged at all. The other tracks in this album worth listening to are Hot Stuff, BAd Girls and I Love You Baby.

Her range is incredible from the sultriness of 'I Love To Love You Baby' to the synergy of Hot Stuff.

This collection is great, particularly for the hard-core Donna Summer fan. People who just want a collection of her greatest hits, as they remember them, may be disappointed. The reason for this is that some tracks on this collection were edited from the full-length versions specifically for this package. Thus, what you get here is neither the hit single nor the album version but new creations. (This is true of two of her most memorable songs, "Last Dance" and MacArthur Park." Off the top of my head, I can't remember if any of the other tracks feature new edits.)
