Product Description

CD Description

ATOMIC ROOSTER were one of the finest examples of progressive rock/heavy metal hybrid bands and this 2CD Anthology draws track from the ”classic” line up of JOHN Du CANN, VINCENT CRANE and PAUL HAMMOND from the late 60’s to early 80’s. Atomic Rooster to the uninitiated were a band that never fully realised their full potential but to the informed they rate alongside DEEP PURPLE and BLACK SABBATH and they achieved what very few heavy rock bands did at the time-two UK Top 10 Hit Singles. The only surviving member John Du Cann has lovingly complied this release and co operated with Joe Geesin (who writes the sleeve notes) in compiling the actual tracklisting. MUSICIANS JOHN DU CANN, VINCENT CRANE, PAUL HAMMOND SALES FEATURES 1. Proven sales record for ATOMIC ROOSTER and many sought after tracks included in this 2 CD set 2. The Devil Rides Out 25 Mar 2009
Format:Audio CD
A 1970 demo of early hit 'The Devil's Answer' sets a happy precedent for an excursion into these alternate mixes, rare or unreleased, of some of the best material by this British power trio. Such is the quality on offer, 'Anthology 1969-1991' still affirms the Rooster as one of the finest hard/progressive rock acts of its day. Disc 1 culls largely from their best early albums ('Death Walks Behind You' and 'In Hearing Of') and every track hits the spot, the band tight and focussed. The trademark eerie, wailing interplay of Vincent Crane's organ and John Du Cann's guitarwork, hitched to an expressive, powerful drummer in Paul Hammond, is at a creative peak on faves such as 'Sleeping For Years' and 'I Can't Take no More'. Disc 2's later years ebbed in ideas terms but the band nonetheless successfully coupled their sound to commercially hard, period punk stylings on a last album and handful of singles. The set concludes with adrenalin-fuelled live performances of early glories including a revisit to the Devil in an ultimately commendable re-route to the heart of a fine band.

By J. McCarraher TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD
There are a lot of Rooster compilations on the market, unlovingly thrown together without any input from the sole surviving band member. This collection is compiled by John Du Cann and many of the tracks are lifted from his own archive. The material is strong and the sleeve notes excellent. Above all, royalties reach the artist with this release which I am advised is not guaranteed with the other compilations out there.

Atomic Rooster - 'Anthology 1969 - 1981' (Angel Air) 30 Sep 2010
By Mike Reed - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Of all the Atomic Rooster releases that the UK label Air Angel has put out in the last ten or so years, this is the only 2-CD title of the band's repertoire on their roster. I'm hearinng a couple of unfamiliar songs here - like "It's So Unkind", "When You Go To Bed" and "End Of The Day". But it's always great to experience classic Rooster cuts like their *ss-kicking "Death Walks Behind You", "V. U. G.", "Friday The 13th", one of my favorites "Seven Streets", the head-swirler "I Can't Take No More", the heavy (yet melodic) "Do You Know Who's Looking For You?", "Shabaloo" and the three 'live' versions that close out disc two - "Devil's Answer", again "Death Walks Behind You" and "Tomorrow Night". As I look at the back cover, I see that 'Anthology 1969-81' has many unreleased and a few live edits of essential Atomic Rooster's material. A must-have for both new and old fans alike. Last I heard is that Rooster's sole living member John DuCann is planning to reform the band. More power to him.
