Trivium - In Waves

Biography

The Trivium story began back at the dawn of the millennium, when drummer Travis Smith and then frontman Brad Lewter recruited 15-year-old guitar prodigy Matt Heafy for their new band, after seeing him blaze his way through Metallica’s ‘No Leaf Clover’ at a school talent show. After a handful of gigs, Lewter departed, enabling Heafy to take over as the band’s singer, as ... Read more in Amazon's Trivium Store

First off, anthem wasn't my favourite track, but listen to it more than 3 times and the song just hooks in your head, its like a pop song of metal, spinning around by kyle minogue wouldn't go away out of my head for months! and this is what trivium are great are doing... Creating songs that just work and stick inside your head. The track isn't just another "oh no its another samey samey song" because... it just isn't. The song incorpriates some genius of techniques. And is really mindblowing. The other two tracks, which arn't actually on the album, are just as brilliant.

Combining the use of triviums talent on thier instruments and thier talent at creating music. This is the stuff that legends are made of. Once you bought this single, you'll most certinely want to go the full way and buy the new album by Trivium.

Now I must admit I was one of the ones who didn't get Trivium. A boy band playing at metal, there recorded output has been poor to say the least. But it might be words eating time for this is a ragingly good single.

Yes they're still ripping off Metallica and Megadeth but they're finally getting to grips with writing songs of their own instead of pale imitations. To be fair, the lead track is a poor representation but when you get into the meat of 'Vengeance' and 'Broken One', it's clear that Trivium have come on leaps and bounds.

Anthem is taken from the forthcoming album The Crusade which is one of the most anticipated releases this year. Triviums third album... will it live up to the hype? Anthem is the first single to be taken from it - you may have already heard it on the radio or seen the vid on TV. If the rest of the album follows this example, it definately won't disappoint. There's a clear progression from the earlier albums but still unmistakably Trivium. Matt has cut out the screaming, replaced with singing and done a great job. Overall a great job both vocally and instrumentally - check out the riffs a few minutes into the song. The woahs and yeahs at the end are infectious - sure to be a highlight at any gigs! The single also includes two extra tracks - Vengeance and Broken One which won't be included on the album. If the Bsides are that quality, then the album is going to be outstanding.

Recommend this? Definately! I dont buy a lot of singles but was eager to hear the bsides and was well worth buying. Hopefully this release will get Trivium more new fans and the credit they deserve. The hype surrounding them is well deserved both with the new material and live performances. 10/10

This is the first CD single I have ever bought, I usually just plump for albums as I am not too bothered about the bous tracks that come with singles, but two exclusive Trivium songs that aren't featured on the new album was an opportunity I could not pass!

The Anthem is a stunning track with very technical guitar work and clever use of vocal range. It is stunning and guarenteed to please any fan of metal, the band have drawn upon their Iron Maiden influences to write this masterpiece.

Vengeance is a very thrashy song that reminds me of the works of Black Sabbath, but still having the very cutting Trivium soung. Don' let the B-Side tag fool you, this song is not of grade B quality.

This can also be said for Broken One, this is an epic sounding track with very emotive vocal work and great technical guitar work. The style is fitting with the new album, 'The Crusade' but at the same time in parts you can hear the old Trivium coming through.

All in all, I would recomend this CD to anyone who is into Metal music. Fans of Trivium, this is an essential item to add to your collection. Great value.

What a great track for Trivium to introduce their new approach to Metal with this single. Anthem it's self, great riffs, great drums, even better solo! a more commercial side though compared with their old music but still a quality track that sticks in your head. The next track "Vengeance" was just "WOW!" from the word go, don't no why it wont be on the album it ROCKS!!! such a great chorus riff melody and a very up beat pulse throughout the track, it would be a very good live sound in my opinion. The last track on the single "Broken one" has a awesome intro, first time i have heard a bass riff that has stood out by this band in my opinion throughout their albums. Alot more energy then Anthem etc, reminds me abit of songs like the decieved (ascendancy album) through the verses. Broken one is probably my favorite track on the single, just loved every aspect from start to finish. In all this was a very enjoyable selection of songs to keep me going until i get the album and so i recommend to pick it up!

Trivium are one of the world's fastest growning bands and have been ever since the release of their last album Asendancy and it's getting bigger and bigger and as you can probably guess when you hear the band have a new album coming out of course everyone will be wanting to hear it in this album's case usually if a band changes their sound in the slightest they might well lose alot of loyal fans however in this case Trivum have not in my opinon changed their sound they are perfecting it and the more we hear from this band the more mature they have become and you can tell this with Matt Heafys vocals how it has matured over the course of their previous albums and this is really a shining example of how great he is as a vocalist not only is this song filled with classic trvium guitar play but you have the vocals to go along with it and in my opinon one of the best songs from the upcoming album release its a classic rock n roll sing along song and i'm sure you will all love it as much as i do.
