CD Description
The long awaited solo release from the young ambassador of American Music, Chris Scruggs blends jangle and twang to create a Trans-Atlantic, cross genre masterpiece. Produced by Chris Scruggs and recorded at Tucson, Arizonas Wavelab Studio by indie rock savant, Craig Schumacher, Anthem challenges the limitations of roots music, while planting its rockier edge in a firm traditional footing. Showcasing the songwriting abilities and musical prowess of a mult-talented performer who has recorded with artists including M. Ward, Ray Price, Amy LeVere, Hank 3, Bobby Bare, Justin Townes Earle and Charlie Louvin, Scruggs (a former member of alt. Country torchbearers, BR549), has produced an album that redefines the boundaries between rock and country with the same freedom of expression as Bob Dylans Nashville Skyline. Scruggs new LP features brilliant performances from Howe Gelb (Giant Sand), Nick Luca and Paul Niehaus (Calexico), Don Herron and Harvey Brooks (Bob Dylan), BR549 and an Everlyesque duet with Kelly Hogan. Scruggs wrote eleven of Anthems twelve songs, with one being penned by his late uncle, Ron Davies (the writer of David Bowies It Aint Easy). Timeless instrumentation colours Scruggs experienced yet optimistic writing as tales of rain clouds, last chances and stagnation are peppered with the promise of blue skies, real love and aeroplane flights.
