Product Description

Synopsis

A thought-provoking book which has been a major contribution to the state of the art from an acknowledged expert. It explains the 'why' as well as the 'how' of HF antennas, and takes a critical look at existing designs in the light of the latest developments. This second edition has been completely revised and greatly expanded. There are more novel antanna designs, including beams which cover more bands with fewer problems, no trap losses and better rejection of interference. A new chapter presents a comprehensive review of ways to make antennas smaller, with particular emphasis on small transmitting loops. An essential reference for the experimenter and enthusiast.

By Bob TOP 50 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
This is essentially a theory book rather than a practical build yourself book but the information contained is easily transfered from the theory to practical. About the only type of aerial that is not covered is the "Magnetic Loop".
There is information on everything relating to aerials including propagation, feeding the aerial, beams, arrays, long wires, reception specific aerials, location of aerials, single and multiple aerials, portable and mobile aerials and even hidden aerials, test equipment and finaly practical applications.
In summary an excellent book for anyone who wants to know about the theory behind aerial construction without too much maths it is written in a manner that is easy to understand perhaps not for the absolute novice but certainly for anyone with more than a passing interest in amateur radio.

Excellent book 22 July 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
Excellent book on the subject with everything well explained. If it could be improved more practical advice on making compact antennas would be good. The reader needs to have a firm grounding in antenna theory to get the most from the book but I guess the readership (Radio Amateurs and keen short wave listeners) will have a good understanding in this area. Recommended.

A great book for practical antennas 8 Jun 2011
By Lawrence Stoskopf - Published on Amazon.com
Moxon wrote a great book describing antennas in their environment. Not a lot of math, but many practical tips. No matter what your antenna needs are you need to see what a master already has done.
