5.0 out of 5 stars Superb 27 May 2009

This must rank as one of the few most beautiful videos ever made. The shots are stunning, each an individual masterpiece. The camera often holds on each scene while the animals move across the frame. The experience is just like standing on the ice and snow of Antarctica, overwhelmed by the beauty. A very, very moving experience. The video can be played either with or without narration - we chose the latter because it intensifies the experience. Buy it - you won't regret it for a moment!

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly stunning 28 April 2009

As a showcase for your HD system this is the perfect blu ray.
As a documentary film it's also very watchable. By default the DVD plays with just music but there is also a commentary track which you can switch on. The music is a nicely inobtrusive new age soundtrack overlaid on the nature sounds. I haven't tried the commentary.
Packaging is bog standard with one disk and no booklet.
The images are incredibly sharp with no visible grain. There are moments when the screen is filled with lots of detail (e.g. thousands of penguins) when I did get the impression that I was seeing artifacts but it's nothing too bad.
Recommended.
