When I bought M.Poliza's Africa I really liked the new fresh angles of animals in that book. The species list was pretty impressive, therefore when you turned a page you did not think that you have seen this photo in that book before. Exactly in that sense AntArctic was a bit disappointing. There are stunning photographs in there, but the topics are repeating and after a while you start to turn pages quicker to see if there is something new or not. One reason is that the descriptions of the photos are in the end of the book and picture of one iceberg or another similar one might be different as a story, but viewer does not know it unless he reads the last few pages.

As whole book is available at M. Poliza's website to look at, I recommend to check it out there before deciding on whether to buy this book.

This book is huge, so I hope you have a huge coffee table to go with it. The photography makes me green with envy.

Antarctic: A Tribute to Life in the Polar Regions 27 July 2011
By Phil Koken - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
Excellent photobook. Can recommend it, especially if you have visited both Polar regions.
Although i am a wildlife photographer as well, and thus rather critical, Michael's work is simply amazing and excellent. Many, many very nice pictures on a good viewable size.

Saw this book at Longyearbyen museum but since it was too heavy to carry it along with I ordered it right away thru Amazon, and received it shortly after I got home.

One of the nicest photobooks on both regions i have seen so far!

Cheers, Phil

I Still Can Not Get Over Poliza's Work... 24 Nov. 2009
By AmaFan - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
My family and I just returned from a trip to the South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula. We saw Gentoo, Adelie, Chinstrap and one King Penguin. Beautiful. These truly are magnificent shots. I almost feel I can relive my trip by turning the pages to view the pictures. I recommend this book as an inspiration for the discouraged or a wonderful surprise gift for the Holidays -- I know how happy this book made me. For the more sophisticated, it raises awareness to what could so easily be lost and threatened by global warming... I only wish others will return the favor and give others the same sense of awe that I experienced.

Beauty 24 Nov. 2009
By Ken J. Siman - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
This is a full color adventure in itself and a testament to the astounding beauty of both Antarctica and the Arctic.
Poliza's portraits of seals, walruses, caribou -- and the most exquisite photos I have ever seen of polar bears and penguins --
are so intimate that it appears as if Poliza has actually befriended his subjects. His photos of glaciers, spirals of ice -- what
he does with light! -- approach the surreal. This sumptuous coffee table book took me (and my coffee table) on an
unforgettable trip.

Breathtaking! 1 Dec. 2009

Michael Poliza's Antarctic is far and away the best book ever published about life in the polar regions. This book is truly monumental in every way and I can't recommend it highly enough.
Not the quality I expected 18 Nov. 2009

I was really looking forward to this book, the preview shots were stunning, I was very disappointed. There are just too many "average" photographs in the book to make it worthwhile. I say "average" as a comparison to the pictures in Africa and Eyes over Africa which were both magnificent.
