Product Description

Product Description

Even good things can be improved: The Digicharger Vario is an optimal charger for nearly all Li-Ion battery packs for digital cameras, camcorders and mobile phones, but it just got better. With the new Digicharger Vario Pro it is possible to do many more things. A charging current of 1000 mA provides short charging-times and contacts that are adjustable in both horizontal and vertical direction make it possible to charge nearly all Li-Ion battery packs, even those with a small contact area.

As an additional feature the "Pro" can be used as an energy source for USB applications, for example MP3 or computer devices. If needed, it is possible to use a connected Li-Ion battery pack as an emergency power source for USB devices. The Digicharger Vario Pro, equipped with LCD -display, can be used worldwide (adaptors for EU, UK and USA are in the set) or in-car.

I bought this item so that I would only have 1 charger to take with me when travelling. I have a digital SLR, a compact camera and various devices which use a combination of proprietary batteries and AAs which requires me to take at least three different chargers away with me when travelling. The ability to charge USB devices is a bonus.

The unit is pretty well made. The contacts are a bit fiddly to get in place as other reviewers have said but it seems like this is inevitable without having a specific adapter for each battery type. That approach means you have to carry all the adapters with you which isn't much of an improvement over taking multiple chargers.

Alas, I wasn't to obtain my promised nirvana! My Canon EOS 7D uses the LP-E6 battery, the charging contacts of which are too close together to accommodate the pins on the charger. Seems like a deliberate ploy to stop people using 3rd-party chargers on Canon's part - grrr! I contacted Ansmann to see if they could provide a solution. Unfortunately, they acknowledged that the charger can't accommodate the LP-E6 and they said they have no solution.

I decided to keep the charger, since carrying only two chargers is better than taking three or more. But carrying one would be best! I may try to build an adapter for the LP-E6 to allow the Vario Pro to handle it. Would have got four stars if not for the LP-E6 issue.

This is great for traveling. Will charge all of your USB devices, mobile phone, camcorder and camera battery packs. Will also charge AA and AAA re-chargeable batteries if you use them. Canon BP511A battery needs a bit of playing about to align the charging pins, but got there eventually. Excellent quality. Compact, especially when you compare it to 5 or 6 separate chargers.

Bought one of these to charge genuine Panasonic VW-VBN130 and VW-VBN260 batteries. After buying this bought another model by ExPro to charge the same batteries and found that it has issues with my VBN130 battery and will not charge it, but this charger will. The downsides are that it can take a while to get the battery lined up with the 'prongs' and does not always charge to 100%. I check the batteries after charging in the camera and sometimes a bit more charging is needed by the camera.

What a great charger capable of charging all the batteries I need. Has certainly saved me a lot of space in carrying various chargers around especially when I am travelling on business. This is perfect for anyone who has a hectic lifestyle and travels a lot on business. Worth ever one of its 5 stars rated by me.

The charger works for a lot of different battery types, mobile phone, camera and AA, plus it has a 1 amp USB output. However, connection of batteries is not brilliant, AAs are a real pain and very difficult to get aligned properly. Camera batteries are easier but I have used better (and cheaper) devices.
