5.0 out of 5 stars FABULOUS UN-MISSABLE MOVIE!, 16 Sep 2008
By FAMOUS NAME (UNITED KINGDOM) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)

NOTE: THOUGH THE DVD BOX SAYS THIS FILM IS COLOUR, IT IS IN FACT BLACK & WHITE.

Fabulous and dramatic love story starring Sean Connery and Glynis Johns.

Sarah (Lana Turner) is an American Columnist for a Newspaper over in England towards the end of World War II. She meets News Reporter Mark Trevor (Sean Connery) and they fall in love and have an affair. There are things in the way; Sarah is about to get married, and Mark already has a wife and child. As if that is not complicated enough, and after they've decided never to see each other again, the War ends, and there's a shock happening which to give away would spoil the movie, but in this, rather than your usual run-of-the-mill romance tale, there are some shock moments awaiting around each corner. An unusual film and un-missable!

Also stars; Sid James, John Le Mesurier, Terence Longdon and a rare appearance of the great child star Martin Stephens. ('The Innocents')

Great Movie!

3.0 out of 5 stars wartime romance and a wife and a mistress, 17 Sep 2008
By Dr. U. L. Khawaja "usman khawaja" (hornchurch ,london) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
this is a wartime drama between two women who are both mourning the death of the same man who died in action in france .
the man is sean connery in a dashing turn as an army officer who was having an affair with the american journalist lana turner- unaware that he had a provincial wife and son in dorset .
after his death she decides to visit his family to know more about the man she loved and a rather mature drama unfolds as the wife discovers her dead husband's clandestine liaison ,initially to her distress but then a tender bond develops between the 2 women and that is very interesting to watch as lana turner and glynis give very credible performances .
wartime london and the blitz is captured well too and sean connery is the icing on the cake as he provides the love interest in the movie in a uniform .
the movie holds well and it delivers both emotionally and dramatically even today .what is different is how the director introduces you to the private life of a war hero who is surrounded by the aura of glory as a boring domestic existence which is in sharp contrast to the excitement of war and you realise why this man was actually enjoying and really believed in what he was doing after watching his other side in retrospect .
a rather different war movie with a difference
