The Urban Jazz Master crosses the tracks to the Darkside,
By A Customer
This review is from: Another Story (Audio CD)
Imagine Jazz. Imagine D&B. Now imagine the new genre in Urban Jazz/D&B.My last review covered Mr. Pine's Modern Day Jazz Stories, which fused Jazz and Hip Hop. Now he does something fresh and maintains his crown for innovator of old and new forms of music. The first time that I listened to this, I was blown away by the effectiveness of this fusion. Cassandra Wilson's haunting voice mixed with hardcore beats and upfront jazz really left me wanting more. And I obliged by playing it again and again. Each track on this album is a revamped version of his previous releases and the DJs that remixed them kept the respect that Mr. Pine truly deserves. Essential listening to all fans of contemporary jazz. Enjoy.

A genuinly superb jazz and D+B fusion,
By A Customer
This review is from: Another Story (Audio CD)
This album delivers what all "fusion" albums should - the feeling that the mixture of crisp, funky jazz and laid-back drum and base were meant to be together! This album effortlessly achieves flight with a sweep of jazz chords and captivating drum and base which will chill you out after a hard day/night or pep you up before a night out. A truly versatile album and well worth a listen - this man is an amazing talent (but you knew that already!) bennett

THE re-mix album,
By Peter T. Winters - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Another Story (Audio CD)
Courtney Pine has made good albums and as Another Story shows, he has been a great inspiration to many others. Usually hearing re-mixes makes you think about one or two things that are better in the re-mix than in the original. But when you hear this album you just have to admit that actually all the titles have their own stories. All the stories are about their authors. And the authors aren't bad, no not at all: 4hero, Roni Size, Flytronix etc. You know all of them. So you take one of those tracks and hope to hear something from the re-mixer. You'll hear it, but you have never heard anything as good from only himself. You'll never hear sth quite the same good from him in the future. 'Cause he'll never write a song with Courtney Pine. So get you hands on this one quickly.

bang on...,
By A. Seponara - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Another Story (Audio CD)
Another Story, released in 1998, was one of the first disks I bought that introduced me to electro-jazz. The remixes on this disk of tunes from Courtney Pine's Modern Day Jazz Stories and Underground are a grooving blend of drum n'bass, trip hop, big beat and sub-house beats and bass-lines with vintage sounding saxophone riffs and improvisation over the top.
It's tempo ranges from bootie-shakers to foot-tappers and ever since i've bought it i've been playing for friends who loved it immediately, not to mention keeping it on my stereo throughout these six years. Your record collection won't be a disaster without this, but it'll be a lot better with it. |
