This CD, by Fisherman's Friends, is one of the four they have recorded. This ten-man sea shanty group from Port Isaac, in Cornwall, who normally sing a capella, and who have been singing together for about twenty years, are, in my opinion, the best thing I have heard in over ten years.

This CD is my favourite of theirs and is just great to listen to. They sing with such great enjoyment which comes over so well. Two of the tracks on the CD have guitar accompaniment which really adds to the enjoyment, one of which, "Cape Cod Girls" is my favourite and, again, is done with such enjoyment! "Lowlands", sung by Jon Cleave, in his lovely deep voice, is another favourite, along with "The Alabama" where Fisherman's Friends sing the chorus with such verbe. I have heard these songs sung by other people but Fisherman's Friends have such a great way of putting these songs over in their own way with their beautiful harmonies that they cannot but grow on you. I keep singing their songs around the house because they are so infectious.

Rousing stuff! 8 April 2011
I first became acquainted with Fishermens Friends with their 2010 album and was hooked instantly (pardon the pun). Reviews published by existing followers lamented the addition of backing instrumentals so I resolved to check the boys out singing accapello. Wonderful! I continue to scare fellow motorists at traffic lights by singing these songs at full pelt. However I sit on the fence regarding musical accompaniment. I think they're brilliant whichever way.

Folk Music 28 Mar 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
Saw this group on breakfast tv so looked for their music on Amazon. Found other people's reviews very helpful so chose this disk because of it. Very pleased with the selection of songs and the lovely harmonies. Good all round disk. If I had a "criticism" it's that I'm used to hearing folk music down the pub on a Friday or Saturday night when the voices are tuneful but rough and ready, and the group here have so many really good, "sweet" voices that it seems a bit unreal. But it was nice to have a new disk to listen to.
