From the Back Cover

Here they go again. Only faster. And tougher. Reggie Hammond (Eddie Murphy) and Jack Cates (Nick Nolte) return in the smash sequel that's "better than the first!" (Pat Collins, WWOR-TV).

How much better? For starters, the mob puts a price on Reggie's head. The bus transporting him from the pen flips over about 17 times. His prized Porsche is blown into scrap metal. Creeps in a bar still haven't learned it's dumb to get Reggie mad. And the night is still young . Before these 48 hours are up, Reggie and Jack will turn San Francisco inside out to nail an elusive druglord. The boys are back in town.and the action's on the streets. Don't miss it!

A total classic 9 April 2012
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a great movie, a total classic, backwhen movies were extremely enjoyable, the 1970's-1990's was the best era for movies, you had jaws, indiana jones, back to the future, rocky, the goonies, you name it, and this is without doubt a great classic movie. If you like 1980's movies then you'll love this.

I suspect that if this was not a sequel then it would attract better ratings. The original 48 Hours [1983] [DVD] is one of the all time classic thrillers, this is a not too bad thriller that loses the magic of the original.

The original was a cracking progenitor to the mismatched buddy thriller, with Nolte as a big grumpy bear of a cop, with Eddie Murphy as the street smart fast talking con man he has to work with.

It does include some cracking action scenes, and some of the most memorable villains in the genre. The original characters are all present and correct, although the love/hate relationship is no longer quite so appealing. There is less comedy this time around, and a darker tone, although the photography is a lot less memorable with less location shooting and more shooting on generic sets. The main problem though is that the screenplay insists on retreading all the best elements from the original film to lesser effect. So we get Nolte and Murphy hitting each other, an arbitrary deadline of 48 hours, another scene in a bar, a villain with a gun to Murphy's head, a showdown in China town. Perhaps most damaging is the fact that the plot really goes all over the place, picking up numerous film cliches, without really engaging you.

By thriller standards this is not bad, but it is not a patch on the original.

Finally no extras to speak of, just a trailer.

another 48 hours 20 Aug 2009
Format:VHS Tape
a followup to 48 hours but the idea became a little stale by this time eddie murphy was too much over the top and nick nolte seemed like a second rate john mc cain aka bruce willis netherthe less the film was worth watching.
