So, Big Country are back -- with what was missing on their 2007 comeback as a trio: with a second guitarist and a new singer. Guitarist Bruce Watson's son Jame and Mike Peters were probably the two most natural choices and it works perfectly. While there are some distinct Big Country riffs on Another Country, their first single in eleven years, there is also some more straightforward punk-rock attitude à la The Alarm there. Might as well call it the best of both worlds.

Appropriate Title 31 Aug 2011
Format:Audio CD
I'm a long standing Big Contry fan, so I hope I won't be villified for not giving this single the full five stars.

Another Country is certainly a great song, with that trademark Big Country sound and passionate vocals from Mike Peters. However, it doesn't, in my opinion, quite reach the heights of my favourite singles from the past - Fields of Fire, East of Eden and Alone. For that reason it has to be just four stars for me.

Four or five stars, does it really matter? Another Country sends out a clear message that the next chapter in Big Country's largely unheralded career will once again offer quality and excitement in equal measure.

Buy the single then the album. But most of all, attend a Big Country gig. You won't be disappointed.

Another great song 3 Sep 2011

This is Big Country's first single in over a decade, with Mike Peters from the Alarm replacing the sadly deceased Stuart Adamson on vocals, and it's a winner. Catchy tune, lyrics that seem relevant both to the fact that Big Country are reborn, and, for instance, the dawn of a new age in several countries in Africa and the Middle East, and some great guitar work from Bruce and Jamie Watson. Why it isn't being played on national radio, I have no idea, but this deserves a much wider audience than it will probably get.

Well, I've listened to the song a few times now and have to say it's a fairly decent effort. It's catchy enough to get air-play yet maintains a distinctive BC sound. Read more
