4.0 out of 5 stars as expected, 2 Aug 2009
Andrew Vachss and his counter hero Burke are becoming a bit of a one trick pony. Have read every 'Burke' book since they first appeared in the early 80's I know exactly what I am going to get. I still buy them and devour them in a couple of sittings. Dark, broody and often very savage I guess the series could almost be described as 'graphic novels'. I believe Vachss has collaborated on a couple of graphic comics over the years.
Burke is a private eye, violently abused as a child, veteran of several 'correctional' homes and prisons, he now dedicates his life to bringing down the worst types of scumbags that (mostly) New York can offer, never by fair means, only foul including cold-blooded assasination.
Accompanied by his motley group of assorted 'brothers' (a midget, an over eager psyhcopath, a lovely lady who used to be a man and a Mossad connected recluse who lives underground in a scrapyard) Baby Boy Burke dishes out his own form of justice usually aimed at child abusers, pimps and others who have the misfortune to cross his path.
Even though each book is a stand alone story I would suggest you try and get hold of the first book 'Flood' which pretty much sets the background.

Burke is back, and perfect as ever.
Perfect buy for anyone who knows Burke and his family.
