3.0 out of 5 stars anomaly? yes it is!! 25 Oct 2009
By Mr Blackwell TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I've had this for a few weeks and it pains me to say it - this is no more than average,to say its his best work since the classic 'ACE FREHLEY' is merely damning it with faint praise.it wouldnt have been hard, only 'rock soldiers' from the last 20 years could be hailed as a classic. The disc starts well opening with two excellent tracks 'foxy & free' and 'outer space' both reminiscent of his 70's classic, however 'pain in the neck' lives up to its title and brings the disc to a halt, this is repeated thru the disc, quality control not high on Ace's list clunkers like 'change the world and ' below the angels ' dragging us down reducing the effect of class like 'genghis khan'/ fractured quantum',the rest of the disc listenable but never top drawer.Ace is a living Anomaly- his fans are dedicated almost to a fault and mostly cannot take any critisicm of the man without spitting the dummy, well i've been a fan since '78 and im honest to a fault, 20 years have elapsed since 'trouble walkin' and to have come up with this is not good enough,Ace needs to realise he need quality around him,he is a great guitar player, that is not in question but he cannot and never will be a succesful top drawer solo artist,i wanted this to rock my world,it gently shook it,it wont edge 'sonic boom' its not good enough, and remember before the abuse i've been here since the 70's,Ace was my favourite KISS member, but blind loyalty never works,Ace has lost plenty over the years, maybe he should have just released a live album?,does anyone remember the live promo/bootleg - ' back in the new york groove' circa 1985?,that was class,Ace has never managed to reproduce that, multiple record labels, simmons & stanley, the record buying public cant all be wrong!!Wake up Ace, smell the coffee .

5.0 out of 5 stars ace is back on top 3 Dec 2012
Format:Audio CD
I saw the tour in support of this and bought this cd too, and ace laid down some impressive guitar work. He played several songs off this release and it was his first solo release in over a decade. There are several good instrumentals on this one and other good tracks as well. I like it as much as earlier ace releases and it's stronger than his last two solo efforts for sure. This is for kiss fans and for fans of very well made melodic metal.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ace Frehley - Anomaly 27 Jan 2010
By Andi
Format:Audio CD
Frehley is far from being a skilled and clever composer. Most songs have a rather clumsy structure and simplistic lyrics, sometimes on the verge of embarrassment. But do not underestimate the creativity and passion of a man who obviously still has got something to prove. The very unique voice and guitar-playing of Ace make this album a very entertaining journey.
Anton Fig was always the perfect drummer for Frehley. He's drumming on most of the tracks here. And he's drumming as if his life is depending on it. Unable to hide the influence of Zeppelin's John Bonham Anton Fig is always present with his own style. These guys have fun with what they are doing. And that's worth a lot more than excellent songwriting sometimes.
Don't expect innovation or an album full of classics. It's a humourous, energy-laden rock-album from a crazy guy from somewhere outer space who doesn't really know what he's doing but who's doing it anyway.

Foxy & Free, Outer Space and even the bulky Pain in the Neck are excellent Rock songs, able to put a smile on your face and let you drive your car a little bit faster. A Little Below The Angels is somewhat autobiographical and gets extremely cheesy in the middle ('Daddy, have you ever seen an angel?') with childrens choir and all, but that's the exemption.
Genghis Khan, Space Bear and the obligatory Fractured are roughly drawn instrumentals without big surprises but groovy and well worth listening. Fox On The Run is a cover of the old Sweet classic and I could do well without but if you like the song in the first place it's probably a very nice version.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ace is back (again!) 14 Nov 2009
Format:Audio CD
Well, it's only been 20 years since his last solo outing, and apart from some serious touring, (in the States, of course ,not here in Blighty until last year)nothing has been heard of our beloved Space Man...until now!! The album itself is a blinder, and exactly what you would expect from him... There are 1 or 2 tracks that require a few listens to get into them, hence 'only' 4 stars ,but overall , especially with the track "Outer Space" Ace rocks out again, Hard! If you like Heavy music with a bit of Quirkiness, then this is for you..Welcome back Ace ,and let's not leave it so long until the next one, Eh?

4.0 out of 5 stars It's really a 4 & half stars CD 27 Oct 2009
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Well 20 years later...Ace has a new CD !!!

First the bad news...the packaging is awful. Luckily the music isn't. It is a definite grower though, on first listen I liked it but the more i play it the better it gets. Full of Ace-isms, tackiness, amazing solos & cheese ("A Little Below The Angels" has to be heard to be believed, so bad its nearly good). Highlights ? "Outer Space", "Pain In The Neck", "Ghengis Khan", "Sister" & "It's A Great Life".

If your an Ace fan you'll love it...if not you'll wonder what all the fuss is about.

I'm looking forward to 2029 & the follow up.
