I take The Times (London) and always make a beeline for Ann Treneman's columns. So here she is reporting what is said and done in Westminster and around the national political patches BUT it's the pithy comments and the laugh-out-loud similes that make her work so cheeringly enlightening. Not the dirge that lesser talents would make such reportage seem; how could one not treasure Gordo's hand-flapping and embarrassed wriggling in the House being compared to a whale struggling to get into a size 10 dress. What a lovable wag Ann T. is.

Ann Treneman depicts British politicians with a sharp, well-observed wit; her portraits of our elected members should act as a guide at the next election. She manages to describe self -important MPs so well - if Spitting Image was still on the box she would have a leading role in the construction of the characters and the script. It should be prescribed reading a the House of Commons.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful By Mr. I. D. Stephen on 15 Dec. 2009
Format: Unknown Binding
Anne Treneman is witty, clever, droll and satirical; she mixes humour with sharp political insights which always seek to prick the pomposity of overblown politicians and regularly ridicules the more outrageous publicity seekers. A joy to read.

Ann Treneman's daily column in the Times is excellent, so this, which is a selection of the best from the year, was always bound to be even better. It doesn't disappoint.
