The House of Lords Records Office (the Parliamentary Archives) has custody of the records of both Houses of Parliament, which date from 1497, and is responsible for making them accessible to Parliament, staff and the public. This annual review covers the year ended March 2005. The major achievement was the successful completion of the five year automation project with the launch of the online information resource, Portcullis. It contains 397,000 catalogue records covering around 3 million items described to international archive standards, and has been very well received and used by the public. Other sections of the report cover the strategic framework for the work of the Parliamentary archives, records management, selection and acquisition, preservation, organisation and financial management.
