Really liked it. 6 July 2011
Format:Paperback
I have just finished 'Annie' and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Novels set in this period make you
grateful for the current times, such poverty way back then.
So I really recommend the story of Annie, though I do agree with the reviewer who said the dialect
was a little over the top, often slowing down the reading. But being a Northener I managed :-).

I really enjoyed this book it is a gentle tale of grit and hard work paying off not all happy endings, but a real page turner.

I picked up this book because it is set in my home county and the author is local. To be honest, I had very low expectations at the outset and began reading it in an over-critical manner. However, the story, whilst a little far-fetched, is rather good. The author perhaps goes overboard on the dialect, which I found very intrusive and some of the characters were a bit too stereo-typical. But at the end of the book I was surpised to find I'd rather enjoyed it!

It's hardly a literary masterpiece, but as pure easy-going escapism, it does the job nicely.
