1.0 out of 5 stars The factually incorrect story...., 7 Jan 2005
This film was such a disappointment that I advise fans of the books not to watch it. This sequel pays no regard to the books, upsetting the continuity of the films, and it is also badly made. The first sequel was a poor re-hash of the themes of the original film, but although it merged several of the books into one and distorted many of the story lines it remained true to the essence of both the original film and the texts. In The Continuing Story fact and artistry are sacrificed for a mish-mash of comic scenes loosly held together by a heroine who is far too old, both in the schemes of the texts and as an actress, to be playing the role. As anyone who loves the books will be able to attest, it is Anne's sons Walter and Jem who go off to fight in the First World War. This film is a sad ending to the series which started off so beautifully.

1.0 out of 5 stars Anne of Green Gables-The Continuing Story, 19 Aug 2005
I have just finished watching Anne Of Green Gables - The Continuing Story, and have to say I am actually amazed it came from the same people who gave us the other 2 lovely 'Anne' films! I was so excited when I learnt there was a 3rd installment I hadn't seen! However, I was about to be hugely disappointed! I just could'nt believe how old the characters looked, considering it was meant to be set only 5 years after the sequel left off. Anne herself (Megan Follows) must have been nearly 40, she certainly looked it!! She even sounded different! I found this so distracting, it was difficult to focus on the actual story!! Her character also seemed to have become totally different, so 'normal' with none of her endearing, quirky ways about her. Obviously being set in the war, the theme was very different, and if you ask me, this is the fatal flaw... how lovely it would have been to have simply had just another 3 hours of 'life' and 'people' in Avonlea, Anne and Gill, purely building their life together at Green Gables. Such a shame, I wish I'd never watched it, it spoilt the idea of a 'happy ending' that the sequel left me with. I don't recommend this AT ALL!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars anne the continuing story, 20 Mar 2006
By Sara (devon, uk) - See all my reviews
If there was the option, I would give this film no stars at all! This is just the most terrible mess of a film ever... Bears no resemblance to what L. M. Montgomery wrote and I felt, unlike the previous films, was not even in the spirit of her writing. I was sorely disapointed that Megan Followes and Jonathan Crombie agreed to have any part of it.. There is a vague link to the final "Anne" book which is set in WW1, but Anne should be the ripe old age of late 40's early 50's and the book is really about her youngest daughter.. DON'T under any circumstances watch this if you're fond of the original books.. I don't even think it's a particularly good film in it's own right. Some of the stunt work is just laughable...
Come on Kevin Sullivan, write an apology to us all and produce a decent film with some if not complete reference to the books!!!
