Book Description

13 Sep 2001 Famous People Famous Lives
This big book format enhances the impact of this successful biographical storybook. Anne Frank tells the tragic story of this young Jewish teenager who kept a diary for over two years while hiding from the Nazis, until she was discovered and led away to her death in 1944. Linc illustrations and speech bubbles help to pace children's reading, while conveying the horror of the story in a sensitive way. Anne Frank supports the National Curriculum for history and the National Literacy Strategy. Additional notes at the front suggests ways that teachers can use the big book as part of a literacy hour. These have been prepared by Gill Matthews, a consultant for the National Literacy Strategy (non-fiction).

3.0 out of 5 stars Brief but good 19 Nov 2010

I bought this for my 7 year daughter to see if popping to the Anne Frank museum was a good idea for someone so young.
Pleased to be able to Report that the museum trip was a big hit, due in no small part to this book.
It is brief but good, and a simple introduction to the strands and the issues of her story, and is not frightening in its coverage of the concentration camps.
It is well balanced, does the job and hits the spot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple & understandable 21 Nov 2010
By JP
Format:Paperback
My son of 8 was totally captivated by this book.
I have recently read "The Diary of a Young Girl" & he often asks me about the books I read, so I tried to explain to him about Anne Frank a simply as possible. I then found this book & decided to buy it for him. He read it in one sitting, which is not a usual occurrence for my 8 year old boy who has ants in his pants! He then shut the book, closed his eyes & simply sighed. The book had quite an impact on him & he desparately wants to read more of the 'Famous People' collection.
All in all, this little book is simple, to the point & covers the tragic story of Anne & her family in a way that a young child can absorb & understand.
