Gezz and her best friends Malcolm and Luke are having fun on the housing estate where they live when the arrival of a stranger interrupts their everyday lives and changes the world as they know it forever. Created by a professor of robotics, Anne Droyd is left in the care of these three children, who take her to school with them and teach her how to be 'a human'. This Asperger adventure explores the human condition and the need to integrate into a society that demands conformity. The author's pun on 'android' introduces the theme of alienation that runs throughout, a tool used to provide comfort to individuals who feel like 'aliens', excluded in a social environment. Readers will be captivated by the heroic characters and the colourful plot, and engaged by Hadcroft's imaginative presentation of real-life issues such as smoking, bullying and peer acceptance.

Anne Droyd and Century Lodge is about three 11-year-old children who serve as guardians to a robot school girl. The children attempt to integrate Anne into their community, before embarking on a daring plan to rescue Anne's creator, Professor Wolfgang Droyd, from the clutches of Nazi scientists.
The reading age is 10 to infinity. Those who have read it love it. Pre-teens are addicted to it, older youths are obsessed with it, and adults are delighted by it. A friend of my 91-year-old Grandma is reportedly "ecstatic" about it, and my best fan letter to date is from a retired university lecturer, a doctor of philosophy, no less. They all say it would make a great television series.
If you like science-fiction, you will enjoy Anne's super-human powers and the secret underground base. If you don't like science-fiction, you will still love everything else in the novel, such as the part where Anne goes to school with her friends and sorts out the bullies.
Anne Droyd really does have something for everyone, which is why so many people of different ages and backgrounds adore it. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Anne Droyd is a childrens book about three friends Gezz,Luke and Malcolm that embark on a great adventure with a new friend they stumble upon when playing on local wasteland.
This is a childrens book but it will appeal to teens and adults alike. This book is not very typical of a usual adventure book as it touches on everyday issues such as peer pressure, smoking, school life and friendship.
I think this book is a fasinating read and will leave you hanging off your seat to the very end. This may sound like a common cliche but you really can't put this book down! I could relate to some issues in this book and every child and teen should read it because of the issues it deals with.It was a exiting and worthwhile read.I will definately read the next book! I think anyone who reads this book would like it or love it I certainly loved it.
The only thing I would say was bad about this book is the fact that I couldn't put it down!

Anne Droyd and Century Lodge is a first class book from new author Will Hadcroft. The book is extremely well written and highly enjoyable from start to end. The characters are all engaging, while the plot is straightforward and uncomplicated making for a pleasurable read something many new writers could take as a guide to writing from Will. The book has many scenes which bring a smile to one's face, and there are momements in the book which reminded me of elements of "Harry Potter, Doctor Who" and "Chronicles of Narnia". Overall, this is a book I would highly recommend to anyone and I eagerly await Will's second Anne Droyd novel.

Although designated a children's book, I was pleasantly surprised as an over-30 male when I read this novel. The plot is straightforward enough not to tax the young, whilst entertaining enough to engage the interest of anyone.
It's written with a very friendly style which manages to get across quite a degree of wholesome family values without in any way distracting from the main story.
The basic premise involves secret underground labs, a fantastic humanoid robot and a group of kids who, in traditional famous five style, save the day (and the world).
Whilst officially about Anne Droyd (the 'robot'), the book concerns itself a lot with the group of children who form the core of the tale. In a way that any youth could relate to, it deals with issues of smoking, drinking, first days at school, prejudice, bullying and other modern topics.
In today's world, a robot as your best friend and protector is a fantasy most children have had at some point, and it's refreshing to find a novel that handles it well without descending into the cliches of science fiction.
A good book for the children, and their parents can enjoy reading it with them. At times it's hard to believe it's a first novel given the assurance of the writing.
