Anne Grows Up... 20 Sep 2011
By D. S. Thurlow - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
"Anne of Avonlea" is the second novel of the superb "Anne of Green Gables" series by Candian author Lucy Maud Montgomery. At age 16, the red-haired former orphan Anne takes on adult responsibilities as the school teacher of her village, while learning she still has some growing up to do.

Armed with a brand new teaching certificate and her ideals about teaching, Anne sets out to educate young minds. She quickly learns that education runs both ways, as she deals with unruly students and nurtures a few promising scholars. Anne willingly adds child care to her responsibilities when her adoptive mother Marilla adds two young orphaned relatives, Davey and Dorie, to the Green Gables household.

Anne and her friends continue to find adventure in Avonlea. The gingery Anne will deal with her fractious neighbor, Mr. Harrison, and will learn the art of small town politics in order to further a few village improvement projects. Anne will be thrilled by her success in arranging the reunion of two estranged former lovers, but will be astonished when best friend Diana Barry becomes engaged. At book's end, the 18 year-old Anne discovers that romance may be in her future as well, along with a hoped-for chance at college.

"Anne of Avonlea" is very highly recommended to fans of Lucy Maud Montgomery and her "Anne of Green Gables" novels.
