I was a professional researcher and writer concerned with health and social care for many years, but my real love is writing narrative non-fiction books, based on interviews. These let real people talk intimately about some aspect of their lives, so that their stories come alive on the page. My most recent book explores what it is like to be a grandmother (Celebrating Grandmothers), but I have also written on what it is like to work with the dying (Life in a Hospice) and what it felt like to have HIV/AIDS at a time when there was no reliable medication (Wise before their Time). The book on hospice care was Highly Commended by the British Medical Association.
Although American by birth, I live in London with my English husband. I have two children who both live in London and two grandchildren.
