Easy to use
on 15 September 2013
I bought one of these from the pound shop. It lasted a few years before the zero key became unreliable. So I got a replacement, similar size & functionality, same price but slightly different hard case. This one is still working well after two or three years. Great value from Amazon, but a steal at a pound.
Now for the important bit. These cheap scientific calculators are much, much easier to use than the more expensive ones e.g. Casio fx 85, with multi-line and/or graphic displays. As an engineer I have a couple of those too, but invariably use the Pound Shop one in practice. Both types have all the functionality you could want: trig, hyperbolic, log, binary/octal/hex, regression, stats etc. For a child doing GCSE/A levels go for the simple type (not the very simple four function +,-,x,÷ variety). But don't take my word for it. Get both scientific types, they are cheap enough, and let them decide which they prefer.
