I saw this film at a friend's house - and since I'm not a chick-flick fan, I was expecting to automatically dislike and dismiss it.
OK, it's not exactly groundbreaking, original or cerebral. But it's exceptionally enjoyable and engrossing. Watching this tale of an awkward adolescent finding her place in the world (and in her adopted country) is akin to sitting down on a rainy Sunday with a short and satisfying novel, full of lively (if ever-so-slightly cliched) characters, helping her discover herself.
Admittedly, East is East is a superior take on similar themes, but if you're having the girls around, you're guarenteed to like this heartwarmer.
