Product Description

Product Description

A guide to drawing Japanese animation. Step-by-step, Christopher Hart demonstrates how to draw anime characters from a wide selection of styles: high-tech cyber punks who live in the world of the future; teen characters with troubled relationships at school, home and on the street; and mighty monsters, fantasy warriors and giant robots. Aspiring animators will find chapters on anime's special effects; the role of storyboarding in anime; sketching and the art of character design; and a mini-course in perspective. Examples and exercises are included. The book concludes with interviews with Scott Frazier, an American anime director working in Japan, and Mahiro Meada, a Japanese animation director.

2.0 out of 5 stars So much for drawing manga/anime, 3 Dec 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Anime Mania: How to Draw Characters for Japanese Animation (Christopher Hart Titles) (Paperback)
This book is to put a word to it: poor.
I bought it expecting it show how to draw anime/manga characters in at least some detail. All it shows are a few simple characters, and then it goes into about different manga genres. It would be fine if it was meant to be a book dealing with the various types of anime/manga genres and explaining them in context, but it's supposed to be a book to help you learn how to draw this sort of artwork! Poor content and poor value.

1.0 out of 5 stars Anime mania, 24 Sep 2002

This review is from: Anime Mania: How to Draw Characters for Japanese Animation (Christopher Hart Titles) (Paperback)
This book can be described in several ways there is a good half and a bad half.
The good half consists of showing you how to draw a few characters and some facts about anime art but the bad half about this book is that, yes it does show you how do draw a few characters but only the simple ones. The book does not tell you how to draw half the characters it shows it gives a bare minimum of the facts and techniques needed to create good anime. A poor attempt in my view.

4.0 out of 5 stars Anime Mania, 17 Jan 2004

This review is from: Anime Mania: How to Draw Characters for Japanese Animation (Christopher Hart Titles) (Paperback)
I think that this book is good because it may not show you how to draw the characters shown but it does show you some of the cool designs that you yourself could come up with. Besides why be an artist if you just copy characters from books and I think that this book was written just to give you how to draw the characters bodies but then the facial features and clothes are up to you. on the whole I like this book
