With a voice that sounds rich beyond his years Will can tell a story or two. A superb record and a genuinely nice guy. Looking forward to his next release.

Jo-Ann Kelly might not be the obvious name to spring to mind when listening to William Elliott Whitmore, but she shared with him the almost unearthly sensation of tapping right into the heart of a much earlier spirit and sound of music.

Like Kelly, it's Whitmore's voice that grabs you first. Like, say, Rev. Charlie Jackson, it's a great big, raw, charred roar of a voice, primal and authentic, whether hollering the injustices in 'Johnny Law' or growling out the bleak optimism of 'There Is Hope For You.' The emotional palette of the record is varied; it slides out like a river on the philosophical tranquility of 'A Good Day To Die.' The backing is often sparse but organ, pedal steel and strings add to the grim beauty of this remarkable album.

If you like your folk music at the haggard, defiant, Waitsian end of the rainbow, 'Animals in the Dark' will grab you immediately, but also repays repeated listening.

It is big, and it is clever.

Bought this album the day after seeing William on the Jools Holland show, and its one of the best album purchases I have ever made. William sings with a passion that is rarely found, and in this album he bares all. Each song on the album has its own deserved place and i could not put a fault on any song. I actually went to see William play a few days ago in Belfast and ended up drinking with him after the show, One of the soundest guys I have ever met, and is a very humble person. My advice to you is to check this album out, you wont regret it. And if you get the chance go see him play live!!
