Jarrett went to college when he was younger as a very promising football player, after a bad injury ended his chances of going pro he returned to his dead end town. He's now broke, unhappy and struggling to hold onto his job. Suddenly a women called Nora walks into the local bar and they hit it off, they go back to his place and get their freak on. She bites him and his life is turned on it's head, especially when Vic turns up to reclaim Nora.
The movie started off reasonably well, I used to quite like Marc Blucas on Buffy and he's okay here. I've never seen Lost so apart from Planet Terror that's my only experience of seeing Naveen Andrews act, based on his performance here I can only assume he's much better on Lost because I wasn't impressed by him here at all. Nicki Aycox was okay, she spends a fair bit of time in this movie nude for any male fans of hers.
The story seemed to be interesting, a race of people who transform into weird computery glowing wolf looking animals. After about 25 minutes or so, until about an hour in it's basically just a soft core porn film. Sex scene after sex scene in some really elaborate scenes that are reminiscent of the awful Showgirls, unfortunately it gets worse from here. As we get into our showdowns in the last 20 minutes, the movie turns into a CGI disaster. The actors are suddenly replaced by some of the worst CGI i've ever seen put on screen, it's horrible. There's no sense of weight or realism to the creatures, it's clearly CGI and all bright and looks like electricity shooting around in an animal shape. I assumed the reason it was so poor was a tiny budget, after checking I found it had a $5,500,000 budget which made the effects inexcusable for me. It should have been done using practical effects, just look how well they used it on Dog Soldiers. The director Douglas Aarniokoski previously made Highlander : Endgame, that's all I have to say on him.
It isn't scary, tense, funny, well acted or full of great effects, it's just filled with sex scenes, hammy dialogue and horrendous special effects. It was similar to another horrible film I recently saw called Hyenas, this is better than that but not by much. The last 20 seconds made me laugh, it was like the Wonder Years with Blucas doing a talk over and actually sounded like Daniel Stern. There are literally thousands of films out there much more deserving of your money, but any fans of Blucas, Andrews and especially Aycox then it's probably worth a look.
