2.0 out of 5 stars Sex, sex, sex, awful CGI, end 25 Jun 2011
By West25
Jarrett went to college when he was younger as a very promising football player, after a bad injury ended his chances of going pro, he returned home to his dead end town. He's now broke, unhappy and struggling to hold on to his job. Suddenly a women called Nora walks into the local bar and they instantly hit it off, they go back to his place and get their freak on. She bites him and his life is turned on its head, especially when the mysterious Vic turns up to reclaim Nora.

The movie started off reasonably well, I used to quite like Marc Blucas on Buffy The Vampire Slayer and he's okay here. I've never seen Lost, so apart from Planet Terror that's my only experience of seeing Naveen Andrews act, based on his performance here I can only assume he's much better on Lost because he's really quite poor here. Nicki Aycox was decent, she spends a fair bit of time in this movie nude for any male fans of hers.

The story seemed to be interesting, about a race of people who transform into weird computery glowing wolf looking animals. After about 25 minutes or so, until about an hour in it's basically just a soft core porn film. Sex scene after sex scene in some really elaborate scenes that are reminiscent of the awful Showgirls, unfortunately it gets worse from here. As we get into our showdowns in the last 20 minutes, the movie turns into a CGI disaster zone. The actors are suddenly replaced by some of the worst CGI I've ever seen put on screen, it's absolutely horrible. There's no sense of weight or realism to the creatures, it's clearly CGI and all bright and looks like electricity shooting around in an animal shape. I assumed the reason it was so poor was a tiny budget, after checking I found it had a $5,500,000 budget which made the effects inexcusable for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars A soft core adult film with a horror theme!! 23 Aug 2012
Animals is most certainly not for everyone as what follows is a load of sex scenes each lasting like 3 or 4 minutes and its not love scenes its really dirty and pornographic kinky sex for no reason at all just like a filthy fantasy way of living! The story is pretty much okay nothing great but the werewolves look odd like glowing things you'd expect to see in a childrens action tv serires like power rangers or something. The effects of the werewolves were impressive and very colourful so its nice to see something neat with this type of film as itys pretty weird not like anything you would have seen before. it has a timid and weak trail of dull umpth to it which is very hard to explain you have to really see it to understand what I meant by that. its not a proper horror film though it has a bunch of scenes some people will get scared of and a few added in jumpy momments. it may have been classed as a horror but it aint a horror this is certainly a porn film and yes it surprisingly worked and is something to talk about, should get more hype from people who appeal to this type of film as you loot who like this stuff will probably take kindly to this one.
overall its enjoyable and worth a watch.

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost beautiful 10 Jun 2014
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
First time I watched it it, I never thought I would give it any more attention...but would rated it 3 stars.
Second time I watched it, I suddenly noticed the girl playing bartender in this blood and gore chaos.
In fact I felt she and her character gave a new and more deep symbolic aspect, to this film that easy could have been forgotten.
One can ask why people watch so many vampire and werewolf films these days, and most of the films are rubbish as far as I know.
But this one is one of the few I will remember for some beauty when it comes to the story, and the end of it.
The actors are in fact real good as well, and manage to lift this to a level where one can start a philosophic discussion about
life death and eternity, and why such films are made all the time, and why so many people search for something in them.
This film is something more than a gritty showoff. I will watch it now and then, just because of the realism and beauty brought
to it by the actors. I did not pay much attention to cheap effects and "monsters" in this film, cause I think the film would have
been even better without them. As i said, the girl serving in the bar made me look at this with new eyes.
And not only because she by look reminds me of my own dentist ;- )

3.0 out of 5 stars ANIMALS DVD 2 April 2013
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
Erm not sure where to start with this film kinder brought it on a whim but when i put it on it didn't make much sense apart from lots of sex, vampires with horrific tempers and a guy who has funny thoughts in his head? Yeah you lost? i certainly was i managed about near to the end but to be honest it was a let down, for the men i'd say as the sex is constant and show's nearly everything of the woman and lots of the mans pecks, backsides.. yeah u get me >.<

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth it, really not worth it. 23 Feb 2010

This movie had an interesting idea behind it. However there were only 2 actors that could act, there was not enough of a story to go with it. Sure, the overall plot was acceptable, but there was no real drama or hook that draws you in, begging for you to see the next scene. There was very little character development and of course the CGI was (I'll be kind) lacking in anything remotely resembling a great monster impression. Bottom line, If you like a stale story, horrible special effects, and 7 sex scenes randomly placed within a movie for no reason at all, then this is the show for you! However if you like actual character and story development, real drama, and a longing to know how it will turn out, then please do not waste your money like I did. This movie was not worth the $3 dollars I lost to watch it. Please learn from my mistake, do not watch Animals.

2.0 out of 5 stars Urban Romance Novel 6 Nov 2010
By Joe & Andrea Valdez - Published on
I picked up this movie after finding out it was put out by Maverick Entertainment Group. MEG specialize in independent direct to DVD films and overall their products are worthwhile B-Movies when you buy them used. Animals is no different, it contains gratuitous nudity and is totally an Urban Romance Novel come to life. Overall it wasn't a bad way to spend a late Friday night.

3.0 out of 5 stars These animals (story and characters) were great, but needed a better habitat (finished-product film) 24 Jun 2010
By Matthew S. Spencer - Published on
(actually I'd give it two and a half stars, but the template won't let me go halfway on a star... but since I *really wanted to like* this movie more than the final verdict left me, figured I er on the side of nice.)

So, the movie version of one of the best werewolf novels ever... wound up as a direct-to-redbox cheapy. Nowhere near as bad as feared; in fact, there's a lot going for this, particularly in atmosphere and inspired character-actor casting - I think I'm in love with Eva Amurri and Nickie Aycox [hot werewolf girls... literally at each other's throats... *growl*], Marc Blucas is perfectly cast and deserves to go far as an actor, and villain Naveen Andrews is a pure wicked treat. But I swear, someone in the freakin' editing room must have been on a Mission to make this movie suck! And the story/mythos-changes did nothing but clutter things worse. Also, they made that most frequent of gambles when adapting material like this from page to screen, namely taking story elements that were withheld 'til later in the book, creating tension and mystery that built to surprise twists, and presenting it in real-time from the git-go (as in pretty much every screen/stage version of DR. JEKYLL & MR. HYDE). Sometimes said switch-around works out well, in other cases not. Here... not so much :-/ And seriously, when adapting a 500-page novel with a rather packed plot, there's no excuse for so much filler in the first half of an 80-minute movie, then truncating the second half of the story within an inch of its life. All that internal POV/voice-over/werewolf-DNA-microscope-footage nonsense was a nightmare (and not in the good way you'd hope for from this sort of movie). Still, I confess, I actually like how they made use of low-rent CGI for their creature effects. If you can't make your otherworldly creature look convincingly physically *there*, why not go the other way and have it look intentionally *not* quite there, semi-spectral, suggesting your beastie's not fully of this dimension of existence. Makes perfect sense to me, to where it's a wonder someone didn't think of it sooner. Stephen Sommers should take notes.

2.0 out of 5 stars Missed The Mark 30 Jun 2010
By C. Hill - Published on
Animals should have been a good "Grade B" horror flick, but it really never got interesting enough to make it worth seeing.

The plot seemed interesting enough - No spoilers from me: The story revolves around a washed up football player who returns to his backwards hometown only to fall into a serious rut. Along comes a beautiful stranger who takes an interest in him, but she has a serious ulterior motive.

What follows is a lot of sex, some fairly well done gore effects, a few weak fight scenes, and perhaps the cheesiest CGI special effects ever (seriously). The acting was on par with other low budget movies, but there were really no standouts to make this movie worth seeing again. This movie really moved slowly and the odd camera work and editing also made it difficult to watch.

Not Recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rawest sex scene ever! 9 Sep 2011
By R. Mayo - Published on
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
All in all as a movie production goes, I would give "Animals" 2 -3 stars. However, the sex scenes in general were very sensual and the scene in the alley was off the charts! WOW!!! What an awesome, erotic and powerful performance by Nicki Aycox. Where has she been hiding that body?
