This is a lovely rhyming story with an energetic rhythm, telling the tale of Oliver who is playing with his animal soup. With a sprinkling of magic, he jumps into his bowl and sails away, and his mother jumps in to find him. She encounters a whale, an elephant a crocodile etc., before eventually she rescuing Oliver. At last, they're back safely in the kitchen - but there's a nice twist at the end: what about those animal crackers??
The pictures are bright and fun, wide-eyed and a little crazy, reminding me of Lydia Monk's style. Although this is not a Hallowe'en book, Oliver's mum is a friendly witch and the soup is so orange it's would seem a very good choice for an autumn read.
