Journalist and animal aficionado Susie Green has written about animals for the Guardian, the Mail and animal magazines. She has a BA in psychology, has spent 2 months studying a pack of feral dogs in India and is currently writing a scholarly work on the cultural and natural history of the tiger for Reaktion. She has spent extended periods of time in India where she has studied the Hindu religion and borne witness to the extraordinary sight of a Hindu priest summoning jackals to the temple by whistling. Her personal belief in the extraordinary powers of animals has given her a deep fascination for ancient shamanistic cultures worldwide. These cards are beautifully illustrated, with 52 different animals, each having it's own special message. You can interpret these messages and apply them to any aspect of your life, emphasising strengths and weaknesses of the animals and directing this new wisdom to your current/past/future circumstances. If times are tough, perhaps you may find a little solace and comfort in what is portrayed and in good times, they will only reiterate all the happy feelings and clarify what you already knew deep down.

Meditation and spiritual journeys to find your own individual animal spirit guide are also encouraged, you can explore the many pathways of Shamanism with the aid of the authors knowledge. Find your own special place of peace with your animal spirit guide and enjoy sanctuary with inner guidance, bridging a lost gap between us and the natural world. While using the characteristic strengths of each animal to assist our journey, seeking a better and more fulfilling way to coexist in harmony within the chaotic world we live in today.

Very nice! *****

5.0 out of 5 stars ANIMAL MESSAGES 5 May 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Lovely illustrated animal cards and accompanying book. The illustrations 'grow' and become more detailed the more you look at and use them.....The book's explanations and divination uses are clear and simple, with layouts and interpretation of the messages easy to do and understand. All the messages feel to be personally relevant to whichever and all aspects of your life you are asking about - current/past/future. A great tool for not only exploring yourself and understanding your own actions/driving forces, but also where you seek advice/guidance/clarification/direction at your present time and position in your life..... The more you use these cards the more they become familiar to you - 'tuned in'- to your spiritual journey and with your personal animal spirit guide.... A lovely set for anyone - particularly those who feel a special affinity with animals and/or shamanistic/pagan ways .....
Great! *****

1.0 out of 5 stars really? 30 May 2012
By cerwinrhiannon - Published on Amazon.com
I really have to wonder where she got these interpretations. The bio given is extremely sketchy.
Because she spent a "whole" 2 months studying wild dogs she is qualified to make these cards?
Here are some examples: for mountain goat "Fighting for love or ardent declarations may hide
unfaithfulness." Huh? Are mountain goats unfaithful then? Another: for hare "Discernment before a
passionate encounter leads to the magic of love." Hares are discerning in their "passionate encounters?"
There are quite a few cards that deal with unfaithfulness and infidelity, concepts that really don't even
exist in the animal world. Someone's Freudian slip is showing, methinks. Other cards are just trite,
such as for bee "Hard work is rewarded with responsibility and a sweetness that is shared."

I am very thankful that I got these cards at quite a reduced price, for I will never use them.

The art isn't even very good. Porcupine looks like a wild boar on a bad hair day.

Try animal decks like those by Steven Farmer if you want some sense and substance.
