“While we were working on our album these past few months, we could literally feel how powerful and creative our work was–and how much fun we were still having, in the process,” says SCORPIONS lead singer KLAUS MEINE about the band’s new album STING IN THE TAIL. “We want to end the SCORPIONS’ extraordinary career on a high note. 5.0 out of 5 stars Classic line-up experiments 27 Jan 2006
Format:Audio CD
Having established their new sound on Lovedrive, the classic Scorpions line-up immediately went on to produce their most adventurous album in Animal Magnetism. Whilst still retaining much of the slick, hard-rocking nature of its predecessor, AM also saw the band reach out for a more intelligent and challenging sound. Opening with the solid 'Make it Real' and the quirky 'Don't Make No Promises', the album then swings wildy from the sublime 'Hold Me Tight' to the somewhat pedestrian 'Twentieth Century Man' before delivering a charming ballad, 'Lady Starlight.' But it's the remainder of the album that really shines. 'Only a Man' and 'Falling in Love' are prime examples of the band writing and performing with professionalism and flair, while live-favourite 'The Zoo' is a wonderfully mid-paced rocker with an evocative whiff of decadence. Finally, the startlingly different title track is the Scorpions at their heaviest; it's twisted menace and snarling sexuality a perfect epilogue to a wonderful early 80s metal album.

5.0 out of 5 stars one of their best. 3 July 2012
Format:Audio CD
This is a great cd to grab; as this is metal at's most melodic, fun and well sung and played. !980 was a great year for rock and roll and this one stood up quite well in that fantastic year (musically). It's cover though is dumb ; but who cares, they were out to grab your attention. The music though is just great. There's not a bad song on here. And for metal fans this was one of the highpoints of 1980!. (time moves on but good music remains) The scorps previous one 'lovedrive' had really broken them in the U.S. and had introduced this type of sound that was moving away from the psych rock hendrix influenced metal of their excellent earlier releases. Everyone here is playing and singing to perfection and the scorps were masters of the newer type of melodic metal that was mirrored in the nwobm (new wave of british metal) that was raising and revitalizing metal completely. Instead of the more sloppily played nu metal of 15 years later which is ok this is classic metal with lots of punch. The zoo is the hardest slammer on this one and it still is wild to hear even today. Metal was wide open and often better sung and played than most of todays so it could capture many more fans percentage wise than todays generally. So this is worth grabbing and adding to your classic metal collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best from one of the best 7 Jan 2003
By Adam
Format:Audio CD
On This album you get one of their best songs ever "The Zoo"! Plus 8 other great songs. Rockers like Don't make no promises your body can't keep and Twentieth century man and the classic ballad Lady Starlight make this album well worth adding to your collection. Also, you would probably like their album "Lovedrive", that's my favourite.

4.0 out of 5 stars Underrated 22 Aug 2007
By Ed
Format:Audio CD
The second Scorpions album to feature Matthias Jabs on guitar is generally considered a step down in quality, this isn't really fair. `Animal Magnetism' may be a weaker album than `Lovedrive', `Tokyo Tapes' and `Virgin Killer' but its better than most of Uli Roth era, some fans will tell you that all those albums are the pinnacle of music, but this simply isn't the case as the Hendrix inspired numbers with Uli singing tend to be quite embarrassing.

`Animal Magnetism' sees the Scorpions branching out and expanding from the Lovedrive sound, this has mixed results sometimes it works for instance when they try heavier material such as `The Zoo' and the title track, however it doesn't work as well on the dire ballad `Lady Starlight'. `Animal Magnetism' sounds a lot darker than `Lovedrive' and is less reliant on faster upbeat numbers than `Lovedrive' as well. So this album is less consistent than it's predecessor but still seven of these tracks are either good or excellent only the aforementioned ballad `Lady Starlight' and the rather unspectacular `Falling in Love' let the side down. `Make it Real' opens this album in excellent style with a classic Rudolf Schenker riff and some wonderful harmonised solos that are Matthias Jabs trademark featuring in many of the bands biggest hits such as `Rock You Like a Hurricane' and `No One Like You'. `Don't Make Promises (Your Body Can't Keep)' is an amusing rocker focusing on Herman Rarebell's favourite topic men masquerading as women, his obsession may be unhealthy but it's a great song. `The Zoo' is everyone's favourite from this album , there's a reason for this, it's a masterpiece with its really slow brooding verses and ever so catchy chorus and to top things off a talk box solo, they don't make them like this anymore that's for sure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly what you'd expect from the Scorpians. 30 Jan 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
German band singing in English, at the height of popularity in the 70's and 80's - classic rock at its very best, and will not disappoint! They were selected to play at Donnington's "Monsters of Rock" for a reason! Excellent.

I am in the process of updating my CD collection as my vinyl and cassette tapes run out. The zoo and lady starlight were always my favourite songs on this album and still are.
