Simply beautiful designs for small children and toddlers. Make sure you enjoy working with lots of colour and are fairly familiar with this technique as most of the designs depend upon it. I have made the farmyard jumper for my son and changed the zig zag bottom border to a straight border so it is more boyish. Currently making the ladybird baby blanket - very concentrated work needing 26 small bundles of wool to achieve the full effect but will look fantastic when finished. As with all Zoe Mellor's books, beautifully photographed and well presented. If only one had more time (and money for wool!)

How do you choose which divine little sweater to make from this groovy book. Many hand knit books of this type are still a little outdated and traditional but Animal Knits brings hand knitting for children into the 21st Century. From the super 'Bunny' and 'Duck' Cardies to the sensational 'Fish' hat, Animal Knits gives clear and simple instructions of how to make special, yet still fashionable, brightly coloured garments for babies and children up to six years old. My favourite has to be the 'Ladybird' hat (actually shaped like a labybird!). Equally lovely patterns can be found for boys and girls and the age range covered makes it better value than some.
Many of the designs are for the slightly more experienced knitters however, as the 'Intarsia' technique is often used - if you don't think you can cope with colour work - there's always that relative that offered....!

although the patterns are lovely, was disappointed with the size of the book and the graphs are so small they are very difficult to read. A lesson learned for me is to do more research before I buy but it has given me a taste for more of her work.
