5.0 out of 5 stars Good stuff, 20 May 2003
By A Customer
this books really useful to have if your studying animal farm. it includes quick and easy to remember summaries for each chapter as well as more detailed descriptions of each event in the book. it highlights useful quotations that will help you to earn high marks in the exam. the book begins with an introduction 'setting the background'. here it lists the events in animal farm and compares them to the events in the soviet union which really help to give an overall understanding of the book and what it means. further on in the book you can find character studies of each character in the book helping you to remember and really understand the purpose of each of them. the book also gives tips on how to improve your grade eg, how to use quotations. this book is overall very useful and i would recommend it to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars animal farm. the classic!, 29 Mar 2004
animal farm is a classic book. by george orwell (the ispiration of big brother! so george orwell made jade goody become a star!) this book to normal readers is about pigs who run a farm. simple. book to the english literature examiners it is a satire of the russian revolution. confused? you need york notes.

it tells you every thing you need to pass GCSE or eqv. it in detail tells you about the themes of animal farm, each character and each chapter. it even gives you little test yourselfparts.. which i have never seen in a york notes.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good to help break it down., 16 Feb 2009
By Michael Hedley (Perthshire, Scotland) - See all my reviews
I bought this after deciding to write a critical essay based on the novel. It has plenty information on the book and its parody, also a nice break down of the characters as well as each chapter.
If you are struggling to understand the novel don't buy this as a quick fix, it is not! You still have to be able to understand the tools Orwell has used and why. The book will not write the essay for you. What it does do really well is keeps you focused. I'm dyslexic and very forgetful, so English is a bit of a challenge at times, but this book gave me gentle reminders about key point within the novel which really helped keep me on track. If you want to go down the boring route and just discuss the parody between it and the events of the Russian Revolution then this is also pretty helpful.
(My advice though would be to look at it from another angel, remember the markers have probably read the whole Russian Revolution parody discussion a thousand times or more.)Animal Farm: A Fairy Story (Penguin Modern Classics)
