From Amazon.co.uk

You expect cheap gags from a Rob Schneider movie, and The Animal delivers in the best possible way. Schneider plays Marvin Mange, a police file clerk who drives off a cliff and is horribly mangled--only to wake up not only whole, but feeling better than he ever has in his life. He suddenly develops strange powers that lead to him being praised as a super cop. Unfortunately, his powers are the result of a scientist's bizarre experiment--and before long, some side effects start to take over his life. It's hard to put a finger on Schneider's appeal, but he's got something. He can get away with tasteless jokes about bestiality and bodily functions because... well... he's sort of helplessly sympathetic, and somehow this actually makes him funny. --Bret Fetzer, Amazon.com

Product Description

But when James Animal Allen (Ving Rhames) is locked up in a maximum security prison, he meets a revolutionary (Jim Brown) who changes his life. Now a reformed man, James is released only to find that his own son (Terrence Howard) has assumed a life of crime and violence. Can a father haunted by his past redeem his family from the very streets he created, or will he be forced to make the ultimate sacrifice?

4.0 out of 5 stars Rob Schneider On Top Form! 6 Jan 2005
Format:DVD
Its hard to say exactly what it is, but there is somthing about Rob Schneider that makes him very entertaining and even funny. I guess you would expect cheap gags from his movies, and 'The Animal' really pulls it off well.

Marvin Mange is a police file clerk who dreams of becoming a 'proper' police man, but is never quite up to scratch. On day when the whole station is empty, Marvin recieves an emergency phone call and rushs off to save the person involved. However he soon finds himself flying off the road and falling hundreds of feet to the bottom of a cliff.

He is found after a few days by a mad scientist who puts his very mangled body back together with animal parts. Marvin doesn't realise at first, until he starts to develop animal like qualities: an increased sense of smell, can run at sixty miles an hour etc.

Things get even worse when some local cows are attacked and mutilated, as well as one of the farmers themselves. Marvin thinks that it is him, as do the local people, who begin a huge manhunt to kill the 'manbeast'. However, is Marvin the only experiment of the mad scientist, or could there be others?

Rob Schneider is brilliant in his role as the mad Marvin Mange who begins turing into an animal, quite literally. Colleen Haskell plays the very sexy pet shop lady, Rianna, who seems to like Marvin despite his obvious animal tendancies. John C. McGinley plays the very muscley but very nasty Sergant Sisk. Michael Caton plays the mad scientist, Dr Wilder, who uses animal parts to put Marvin back together. We also see Adam Sandler in a camero role, just as Rob Schneider cameros for Sandler in both 'The Waterboy', and 'Little Nicky'.

Overall, 'The Animal' is a very entertaining movie that relies mainly on pretty cheap gags, but still works and is quite funny. With some nice extra features including deleted scenes, a commentary, a trailer and even a game, this DVD itslef is a good buy. If you are a fan of Rob Schneider, or Adam Sandler (because the humour is very similar, and he appears in it) then this movie is for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars better than expected! 17 Aug 2005
Format:DVD
I decided to watch the film after reaidng reviews saying that this was one of his best. I'd agree. The film is funny mostly throughout, but does have some cringy moments where its just not funny! The certicficate for this is a 12, which I'd say is mostly appropriate, but there are some moments when perhaps it should have been 15. I was pleased with the film as I didnt knwo what to expect and thuoght I maybe left disspaointed. But, the only downside was the last 15 minutes or so, where theres no funny bits and it ends slightly strangely, as somebody else has said. Overall, I would say get this film..Its worht watching one a day when theres nothign else to do anyway and it makes you smile!(mostly!!)
