superb album from the Ramones with the utterly awesome "something to believe in" and much else beside this is hearty stuff and rubs shoulders with the likes of Leave Home and Road to Ruin surpassed only by Rocket to Russia and Pleasant Dreams ;when u wanna smile at those rose tinted days this does the job and when you just wanna kick back this does the job and when u need something to believe in this does the job so thank you Ramones for so very very much.Maximus Metalicus

Despite not being from the 'classic' era of the Seventies, this is one very good album indeed. Whilst other Ramones albums follow a tried and tested formula, there is something chaotic and a bit 'left field' about this collection of songs which make it all the more appealing. It is as if they had found a new lease of life again after some more staid offerings - the energy is back and the power of this album is thrilling. Not all the songs hit the mark, but the majority are terrific.

Even as a huge Ramones fan I'm afraid that I must agree with the last review. Although Animal Boy is by no means a bad album it really lacks the spark and magic of any of the Ramones earlier work and is completely ruinedby the over the top production. It does have some high points though, the opener "Somebody Put Something In My Drink" is a great catchy track whilst the closer "Something To Believe In" is a good enough song to survive the bewildering descision to replace Johnny Ramone's trademark guitar with godawful 80's synths. However the majority of the other songs are pretty awful (especially the suitably titled "Crummy Stuff") with the only exceptions being "Love Kills" (Dee Dee's tribute to his friend Sid Vicious) and "My Brain Is Hanging Upside Down" which although not as good as the single version is still good in it's own right.
In short, this one's for the die-hards and if you're new to the Ramones buy "Ramones" or "Rocket To Russia" recorded while they were still the best band in the world.
