Product Description

Review

'Young children will love to sing and dance the animal boogie with the friendly creatures in this wonderful jungle. They can sing along to the catchy song whilst they look at or read the words in the book. The repetitive words of the song make it easy for children to learn, while the appealing tune and the bright and funny illustrations in the book will fire their imaginations. The guess the animal' theme which runs through the song will encourage children to participate. This will have parents and children up and dancing around the kitchen!' --BBC Parenting

'Just the present for over-excited toddlers in need of a little energy displacement. More than just a picture book, this sing-along, find-the-animal extravaganza, will get young children dancing from beginning to end, as they stomp like an elephant, shake with the bear. With printed music, audio CD and rhythmic text, there is much to enjoy here (and at a reasonable price) - not least the lively, high volume pictures showing an impossible, but totally beguiling jiving jungle world' --Independent magazine

'The vibrant, fun illustrations in this book are packed full of jungle animals to find and count. The rhyme bounces along introducing a colourful collection of intriguing animals through lively word play and repetition. A musical score is included in the book.' --Nursery Education

About the Author

For more than twenty years Fred Penner has been entertaining children and adults alike through a variety of media. A native of Manitoba, Canada, Penner has worn many hats, from folk-rock singer, television host and home video star to children's book author, UNICEF Canada spokesman, husband and father of four! Penner's deep respect for children has been a driving force behind his work and inspires his energetic live performances. With record sales topping the one million mark, and eleven albums and home videos to his credit, it is no wonder that an entire generation of children know many of his lyrics by heart. In fact, Penner's 'The Cat Came Back' and 'You Can Do It (If You Try)' are such favourites with children that they have become classics, taught and performed in music classes all over the world. Lucky for us, Penner shows no signs of slowing down. He is continuously working to create new songs, hoping to share his music with many generations of children to come. Debbie Harter was born and raised in England, and she currently lives in Penzance, Cornwall. She has participated in all kinds of artistic ventures, creating jewelery, textiles, ceramics, mirrors and candles. Now Debbie works primarily in book illustration, and with her bold and vibrant style, has created many of Barefoot Books' most successful titles, including Herb, the Vegetarian Dragon (1999), The Animal Boogie (2000) and the best-selling Bear series.

Don't buy this unless you're willing to perform it at least once a day! Great fun though, and our 20-month daughter loves it. Bright, colourful illustrations of various jungle animals and scenes, and cheery song on CD (not one of those high-pitched singers favoured by nursery rhyme albums). Follow in the book as you stomp, leap, flap and swing around the room. Recommended as a 5 minute aerobic workout for parents too.

I first borrowed this book from the library for my son, aged almost three. He loved it so much that we have bought a copy for him, and four more for his friends and relatives.
The book is a series of "down in the jungle" segments, with different animals, doing different actions, but all joining in the animal boogie: "boogie woogie oogie". Each animal is being watched by a different child. My son loves to join in with this, and has his own very special boogie woogie oogie dance! He loves the bright illustrations, too.
It's a wonderful book to share with children of about two and a half upwards. A friend's six year old loves it just as much! As a parent, I like the fact that each animal is marked with it's proper name and where it comes from on the final page. The children are also a good mix, including children of different ethnic groups. There are plenty of opportunities for talking points.
I'd highly recommend this book to parents, friends and relatives of any child who loves to share books!

This is a colourful beautifully illustrated book illustrating the animal boogie song. My children have enjoyed it at daycare so we purchased it for home, and were fortunate to also receive a cd with the song on it. My children love the colourful book, but it's hard to get them to spend long looking at the book - they just want to dance the animal boogie!

Beautifully illustrated book with a catchy tune. Sing it once, you'll find yourself "boogie woogie oogie-ing" all the time. My niece and nephew loved the song (though they preferred my terrible singing to singing it themselves) and dancing to the music.

In addition, the children in the book are of different races and one of the girls is a wheelchair user. Wonderfully inclusive book!

My 3.5 year old learnt this song at nursery so I got the book/CD for him at home as he loves it. The song/pictures everything is great.

The only thing that stopped me giving 5 stars was the thickness of the pages, as this book is aimed at younger children needs to be more sturdy! My copy already has several taped together pages.

A brilliant book with CD which is loved by my youngest grandson. Colourful images which instantly caught his attention. Returns to book on a daily basis. Was looking for a book to accompany older brothers choice of animal book and this more than a match for a younger child. A simple, early introduction to the world of animals. Prompt delivery direct to home address and good value. Would make an ideal gift for birthday/Christmas or just as a treat!

My son is always singing this song as they do it at nursery a lot so i thought i get the book so i can join in with him too. Its an excellent book and you get the CD too which we listen to very often as its his fave. And you have to boogie to the actions the animal are doing. This is definatley a must for any 2-6 years old book collection and its a fun way to get them to learn too.
