Book Description

8 Aug 2008
A complete reproduction of the 1908 Angostura Bitters Drink Guide with a new introduction by Ross Bolton.

This book was most likely a promotional piece, and so it has over 200 recipes (with and without bitters) of food and cocktails.

Since it was made to be popular, it features only the most popular drinks at the time like Mamie Taylor, Whiskey Smash, and Gin Sour. It is a great book to date cocktails as they emerged or disappeared from favor.

Angostura Bitters was invented by Dr. Siegert in 1824 to cure all ailments - except the one you had. Lucky for us it was added to alcohol cures, as the umami and flavor make drinks ever so much more so.

Great recipes of what drinks to use bitters in. Also, has plenty of drink recipes that do not include other liquors in them.

Do you really need this? No. If you want to have a few curiosity items around your bar to entertain your friends then you would be dissapointed. The history of Bitters is interesting in itself.
