It has been great for me to learn from and to teach from. Easy, well-presented facts.

My 10 year old son really likes this book, nicely written out with good pictures at a good price too. The only moan I have is there isnt always enough information - which meant he still needed to research subjects (like Viking Gods) on the internet for his school project.

I am reviewing this book on the basis of Amazon's "look inside" feauture. There is a migration map to be seen: The Juts are supposed to come from the very north of Denmark, the Angels from the south of Denmark and the Saxons from the north tip of Germany (Schleswig Holstein)... That is inacurate!!! The Juts came from the whole peninsular of Denmark (one of the two main parts of the country), that's why it is still called today Jutland! The Angels came from the eastern parts of the northern german county of Schleswig Holstein, that's why that area is still called Angeln today! The Saxons came from south of the river Elbe in Germany, that's why the county is still called Lower Saxony!
Another misleading picture in the book is that of the battle of Hastings painted 300 years later, on which the normans and saxons are depicted as crussaders.
Books like that should be avoided by the parents but the problem is that most parents have the wrong ideas of history in the first place, since as children they had had books like this... A vicious circle!
